From my personal experience with just one Winchester 375 that I bought, before they got popular , is that it wont do it. Either one really, range and not accuracy. What size is the target we are talking about and how much accuracy? My 375 was horribly inaccurate at 100 yards and I have yet to see one that was extremely accurate, although there has to be some around. I sold mine due to the accuracy problem. So with the open sights at 300, unless you have a vernier type sight, much of standard rifle targets middle section will be covered by the sight. So you would have to adjust the open sight to shoot high and aim at a 6 oclock hold on the target to have a middle of target point of impact. Keep in mind that many casual, and even a lot of more experienced shooters, find about 300 yards to be the limit of good shooting and hunting accuracy,...... and that is with scoped bolt action rifles. While I am sure it is possible for some shooters and some rifles I am thinking that this will take some time and some work, work on sights and maybe work on rifle, and for sure work on the combo with the shooter. Generally these lever rifles and bullets in 375 Win and the loads lend themselves to more shorter range applications on game and deer. My 0.02.

You WILL need a tang sight to shoot the 375 at 300 yards. As TexKD says you will need a vernier or Marbles (with tall post) tang sight to handle the 375's "rainbow" trajectory. The very similar 38-55 Winchester, originally a target cartridge, can be very accurate and my re-lined Win. 94 Trapper can shoot 1.5 moa (3" groups) at 200 yards. That load (in a 38-55 case) is Hornady 220g JHP/32g IMR3031. You really need to describe your rifle (and what you mean by "comp")to get a useful answers to your question.

If you are shooting a single shot or at least not loading in a tubular magazine you can shoot the Barnes 235 TSX bullets and they will help you out at longer ranges. DONT put them in a tubular magazine though. In a Contender pistol with a 14" barrel I got a 2 5/16" group at 300 yds but the bullet drops 36" from 200yds to 300yds. Mine is zeroed at 200yds. I was using 33 grains of Reloader 7 and CCI 200 primers. God Bless, Louis

it'll go that far. don't expect minute of prairie dog. but bowling pins should be okay. i use the lyman 375449 over 25.5 grs of aa-1680 it's a pretty stout load. the marlin shoots it pretty well. the winchester was sighted in at 200 yds on the lowest rear sight setting. i am gonna use a bit slower powder next go round and slow down the velocity some too. my friend shots a model 94 in 38-55 but only uses black powder, and all he will shoot is 2&300 yds. a good tang sight and good front [soule type] will allow you to have good accuracy.
