Shopping (maybe dreaming) for a Win 1886 Extra Lt Grade I .45-70 reproduction. What is a good price for one of these NIB?

Deke.

Deke,

I found mine on GunsAmerica for $645.00 a year ago. Since that time I've seen them for a little less and a whole lot more. Hope that helps.

this is the link to the add I bought the rifle through
Legendary add on GunsAmerica
Their web site doesn't seem to be working at the minute but here is the link
Legendary Guns
I found them most helpful here is their email
sales@legendaryguns.phxcoxmail.com
Dealt with Frank Gary

you could also do a search on GunsAmerica which seemed to have the most 1886's when I was looking
GunsAmerica
there was also
Auction Arms

I bought mine from CDNN Investments in Abilene, TX for $599. I see in their latest catalog on their site that they still have them advertised for the same price.

www.cdnninvestments.com

The catalog is about 11 MB. CDNN's phone # is 1-800-588-9500. BTW, they're friendly to both FFL dealers and individuals. I called them and ordered my rifle myself (and gave them my credit card number - OUCH!) after my dealer sent in his FFL copy.

Actually, giving them my credit card # didn't hurt nearly as much as the first time I shot my 1886!

I loaded up some heavy 405 Gr. loads with a (probably over) max charge and shot it off the bench. OUCH!! That steel buttplate doesn't do much to soak up recoil. I'd highly recommend that a Decelerator or similar recoil pad be added.

Good luck.
