Gents, Are there enough of you out there that would be interested in Winchester coming out with the 450 Alaskan in the 1886 or 71? If so, and there are enough hopefuls, a letter would be generated to express these wants. At the same time, we might as well ask for the factory loading of the fine 450 AK load. Two loads, 300 grain medium velocity, and a 400 grain heavy. Something in the area of 2200. Let us know your thoughts. One other thing, indicate if you would purchase one if offered at normal 86 pricing. Roger QSL

Mr Roger Sir: You are getting very, very, specialized with what you are asking. Not at all like asking for a 32-20. If you or a 100 of fellow wishers want those things, I would suggest your best route is custom alteration and handloading. Just a sideline watcher on this, ned

Ned, "Build It And They Will Come". Well aware of the "Bottom Line Boys" thouht process. They don't budge unless there's bucks to be made. If enough interest were to be generated, then mayby wheels would turn. The 450 AK wouldn't be that much of a change in case forming for them as the 348 is there case. The 1886 Light is already being produced, and to open up the chamber for the AK wouldn't be a problem for them. I know the 450AK is not SAAMI tested, but that wouldn't present a problem either. All is needed is a show of desire by the folks who will buy the gunns and ammo. Just trying to get a feel from the forum members as to the want for this combo. If enough interest is shown here, then a post will be made at other sites. Again, this is just a feeler. By the way, in the future, you don't have to be quite so formal. Plain Roger or QSL is just fine by me. Thanks, Roger QSL

i knid of like the idea of one of the alaskan series rounds being standardized. i think it's be some hot s**t if the 50AK was a factory offering, but the 450 is just as nice.

Roger: Someone on Graybeards is fishing around like you, however, looking for Marlin to make a 50 alaskan, in the lever action forum. ned

I'd take one in 45. It actually makes more sense than the 50 (which would be SO much easier to convert from a factory 45 AK, keep in mind.) There's a better bullet selection, and there's already the well'established 45/70 round to aompete against. Everyone who's sick of hearing their buddy brag about their new Marlin would just HAVE to buy one to one-up. Give us the 450 , and we can make our 50's, 416's and whatever else, on our own time. But no carbines, please. This is a 24" full-mag rifle, in my eyes.

416SW, Mate, you may be right. I just looked through the 2003 Win. Catalog, and no 1886 light. However, The Shotgun News, October 6, 2003, shows a 1886 Extra Light, 45/70 grade 1. It's listed on page 88 for $699.95. Don't know if you can get this publication in your part of the world, but it's a popular gun sales mag here in the U.S. Could be Win. made a special run of these 1886's, and they arn't being advertised in their catalog. I saw one at the gun show here in Orange County a week ago. It had a shortened magazine and from just quickly looking at it, had a 22" barrel. If you need anymore info as to the selling Co., just post back or "E-me". I wish these would have been available when I did my 450 AK. Roger QSL
