A friend just showed me a Winchester Mod 94 in 30WCF with half octagon/round barrel which looks to be @ 26 inches. My friend is 66 years old and gun was purchased by his grandfather w-a-a-y-y back. The crown is cut square with a little chamfer cut on the rifling edge. Guess that's probably not stock? Also somewhere in its life a tang sight was mounted. Suppose that doesn't increase value, but all we wanted to know was date of manufacture. Ser # is: 379xxx. Appreciate any help. Thanks

I'm no expert by any means, but the reference that I've seen says serial #s 378,879-430,986 were manufactured in 1907 (Legacy of Leverguns). Sounds like a nice gun. Hows it shoot?

Thanks for the help. I forgot to mention it's a takedown model. Does that help narrow it down? Didn't shoot it. He showed it to me when I dropped him at his place after shooting.

I would guess that the gun would have some value to a collector. You can get a letter from the museum in Cody WY that will give you some detailed information on old Winchester firearms. It will indicate the original configuration, manufacture date and such. It costs a few bucks, but some collectors like to know the details...

Thanks Rem660. My friend said he saw one somewhere for $1200. Don't believe it was hacked up like this one. Anyway, he says it's not for sale. Gonna keep it in the family. I'm not a collector, but it's neat to look at. Says his #1 son shot his first buck with it. Cool legacy. Later.

Yep, 1907. Don't know much about collecting but at that age in reasonable condition should be worth a bit. I would think the takedown would help. If done by the factory the tang peep fitting wouldn't hurt, and from what I've read, Winchester had many variations and so maybe the crown is factory. Only an expert would know and he would probably have to see it.

I have a model 94 25-35, 1911 vintage, and the muzzle has the same configuration as you describe. Lyman is now making their #1 tang sight again so that's easily replaced. Come to think of it, I believe just about all pre-war (WW-2) Winchester 94s were drilled and tapped for a tang sight. All mine are and I know they're original as they're family heirlooms.

Your crown is proper and the rifle seems to be original without seeing it...I suspect the rifle is valued at about $700 to $1800. depending on condition and how close it is to being 100% new...
