My uncle has a solid frame 99 in 250-3000, seial # around the 660xxx range (top of my head). How would one look for the model number, and could you explain what the circle on the lever means, does the letter refer to the year? Do not have the gun with me, limited info, thanks, jsal. Also has a marbles tang sight, and is not drilled or tapped; can't remember if it is straight or pistol gripped stock.

A Savage 99 with a serial number of around 660XXX would be manufactured around 1952.

There will be a boss lever code with a "D" and one or two digit surrounded by an oval stamped into the lever above the hinge pin. This would confirm the date of manufacture. Smiler
