I have a 1886 el reproduction 45/70 and am considering a conversion in the future, the 50 ak will be a more simpler conversion than the 50 -110 as not as much metal may need to be removed from the top of the barrel shank thats screwed into the reciver so what are the pro's and cons of each ? I eman one could get a long cut throat on there 50 ak and seat bullets out further in the 1886 and get some extra case capacity ?? Also if one where looking at the 50 ak exclusively does the 1886 repor make a better base for a 50 ak than does a marlin....it may be able to take some stouter loads ??

ROTFLMAO ...Sorry guy.... No i am not laughing at you It's that today i was shipping Al's bullet's and you were being sent a sample packet already made up of 10 -- .510-- 525 grain -- Hollow Cavity's And 10 .510 --- 525 grain--- flat nose Hey bud if your looking for somthing bigger like the 535's or 550 or 575's or 600's let me know kev.. So your saying you would rather have me send you some 535's and some 550 grain bullet's instead of the 525's Do you want them all flat nosed or some hollow cavity's It's up to you bud

Thanks Kev, I have specified that Bob order me a 1-22 .510 cal barrel. Kev I have sent you an e-mail mate with more mundane questions !! I had another cool idea to...how would an 1886 look with a 1/4 rib flip up express sites banded front site and a barrel band !! Your classic African lever !! the blokes on the African Forum would go nuts especially if I also have it converted to CRF Also Kev I am stuck on Barrel length......I am thinking any where from 20" through to 24" a 20" would look really mean with the big 50 cal hole. Also how would an aim point work on a 50-110 ?? My smith also said he could contour a picatinny rail to fit the barrel and then screw and solder it on....he would make it integral if I wished but he said it would cost me $700.00 more and felt that it was unjustified sweating the rail on would be more than strong enough he felt.

HI, I had another cool idea to...how would an 1886 look with a 1/4 rib flip up express sites banded front site and a barrel band !! I think that would be great,I wish I had it, you know with that set-up,UP GOES THE COST,but why not only live once. I have also thought about the aimpoint,I think it would be great,I just do not know how it would handle the massive recoil of a hot 525 grain bullat?,Kev

Kev, it would look sweet....but the only thing is as far as practical goes, a leupold 2.5x scout scope is a pretty effective sighting systym and is more versatile at either end of the day, especially with the 28mm objective bell, leupolds other fixed 2.5x which I am very fond of and a few of only has a 20mm obejctive bell. Kev your .50-110 has a tactical/military look to it...is that the look you where chasing ?? Like you I also wonder about the aimpoints ability to take the 50-110's recoil, it is not that far behind the 500 Jeffrey.

Kev's got a recoil pad on his like the one on my 458 thick and kinda ...soft By the way guy's ....Kev AL.... Both of you are being shipped bullet's on Monday Al it's your 525 grain .510's and Kev it's the sample pack ..( it's really all the extra one's left over from alan's order) 10 hollow cavit's and 10 flat nose It's a shame shipping is sooo much to the guy's down under..

Yes Martin it is as I would buy some. Kev, did you get my e-mail ?? My smith wants to know the diameter of your barrel at the muzzle, where the forend stock cap is and also at the reciver. Martin what Brand is the recoil pad you and Kev use.

I know that-- woodleigh --make's some but in a bit heaver jacket wall's and in just a few limited bullet weight's for the .510 ?? ever think about buying a swage press ? It really is not all that much money and if you have a large bore like the .510 the first 10 box's of bullet's you make about pay for the press and half the die cost Press---250.00 for the new vertion of the WallNut Hill's Press---Older vertion 200.00 die's 350.00 .510 Diam roll of lead 28.00 .475 Diam box of jacket's .508 diam 100 count 14.00 flux 1.00 just a thought Pottsy

Al The metal removed according to Arthur Pirkle was at the top rear of chamber, bit like feed ramp except it's on the top not the bottom. Al and Kev have you noticed this on your rifles or is the chamber square edged all the way round?

mine is square all around.

Al, that pleases me that your chamber is square and not polished to the threads.

Thanks Kev This is good news as a partly unsupported chamber like they do in some pistols had me worried about pressure limits of the cartridge now I just have to worry about action strength and barrel shank. The barrel shank on the 1886 is up there or in this case down there with the Ruger No.1
