Thanks folks, I to would like to fit a sling and get the dove tail slot covered. I was actually thinking of getting my smith to fit a barrel band, it could be the "classic African Lever 45/70"

I actually wondered how the 1886 with full qtr. rib would look, but I kind of like the idea of trying to use the Lyman.

Tarleton,

save your pennies mate they are the nicest lever gun I have ever seen/handled.....obviously there are various grades but the basic lines are all the same.

I bought an 1886 same place same time as PC they were new in box $695USD The place we got them have none left but someone here or over on leversixgun posted about some other place that had them. They were made for Winchester by Miroku back in 2001.
I'm still keen to go the 50-110 conversion but having trouble finding a smith, I'm in Australia.

TR,

I would love to add a Ruger #1 to my kit as well they are truly a classic...I fell in love with the 45/70 after reading Paul Matthews book "40 years with the 45/70"

I would also like a replica sharps

Congratulations on getting an 1886 EL. I have one too, and really like it. I found the Lyman 66 sight is much better than the factory rear sight. I also installed a plug in the rear sight slot, a magazine band and sling swivel stud in the butt stock. I like a hunting rifle to be equipped with a sling. Mine shoots quite well with cast bullet handloads. I hunt whitetail deer and wild hogs with mine. I hope you enjoy that classic levergun.

Okay, I knew the originals were Winchester, I thought these were being made as reproductions like something from Uberti. Glad to see how wrong I was, however that deffinately puts them outta my price range. Enjoy the rifle!!!
