Nope, but I think a Guide Gun in a 500 S&W would be nice

not a lever gun, but i have a tc encore in the 500 S&W. it gets your attention real fast. it actually split the fore stock when the screws pulled through in recoil.

The .454 Legacy Sports Puma has been in wide use for some years now. Early models would strip the moorings on the magazine tube and split the stocks. Both issues seem to have been addressed.

Regarding the .500 S&W, there are no "tradional" lever actioned designs that can handle both its length and/or its pressures. The only current design that could potentially handle the pressures is the Browning BLR, but then you have to design a totally new box magazine for it that will feed a rimmed case.

Hows this for a S&W 500 lever gun?

Unfortunately I can't recall who makes it but I DO recall it's very pricey.

The Wild West Guns model was advertised some time back but is no longer listed on their website. Don't know if any were actually delivered.

I have a Puma, blue one, 20in. These are very decent guns and will give about 300fps over the 71/2 Ruger revolver. The Win 300 gives a full 2000 fps. Recoil in the small gun moves it beyond a kids gun. 9 rounds leaves a person pretty well armed.

Do you think that a stainless 16" Puma 92 Trapper in 454 would be a good short range bear defense gun? There was some discussion on this issue on 24HCF, but nobody claimed to own a Puma in 454, so I wondered what you're opinion would be.

Wouldnt a Guide gun in 444 or 450 Marlin deliver more Power?

IIRC, the intended user was a woman who was a little recoil shy, but whose usual rifle was chambered in 30-30AI.

The 454 Puma reaches the lower end of 45/70 ballistics and will recoil more than the 30/30AI.

I have both the Marlin 1895GS 45-70 which is a 18.5" barrel and a 20" barreled Puma M92 in 454 Casull.

Both rifles are almost exactly the same length major difference is that I can only fit 4 45-70 rounds in and an amazing 9 454 rounds in the mag tubes of each rifle.

Here is a comparison of velocities and bullet weights to give you an idea of the performance differences.

Jacketed bullets...

454 = 240gr = 2300fps
45-70 = 300gr = 2300fps

454 = 300gr = 1950fps
45-70 = 400gr = 1950fps

Cast WLNGC bullets...

454 = 360gr = 1860fps
45-70 = 430gr = 1900fps

454 = 405gr = 1650fps
45-70 = 525gr = 1650fps

Basically a 454 Casull in a rifle is a 45-70 Lite that gives original 45-70 black powder velocities that was known to be the best grizzly stopper in its time.
