I recently purchased a new 22/25 Mark III (my first Ruger rimfire semi auto pistol) I disassembled it to clean the factory gunk out of it, and like to not got it back together. After an hour of repeated attempts while trying to dechiper the owners manual, I finally got it. What's the general consensus of this pile of junk? As far as accuracy what ammo would be a good one to start with? I only hope the accuracy is better than the assembly instructions. Jim

I can relate to the owners manual,,I swabed the bore with a pistol jag,,Have'nt stripped it yet,,and won't 'till I absolutely need to.Supposedly you can toss all of the mk111 trigger assembly an replace with a mk11 set up quite easily,,Maby give volquartzen a ring,,,clark's would be another good guru to talk to,,Good luck! Thanks for the trigger advice. What ammo have you shot in yours? As for reassembly step 3 is where you need to pay close attention, and don't be afraid to give it good whack with a rubber mallet. Also the last step where you install the hammer spring assembly???(the little gizmo on back of the grip) I had to reinsert an empty mag. to get the gizmo to go back into position. It doesn't tell you that in the instructions. You will need to remove the mag. before the little lever on the gizmo will close. Jim

From the sound of it the Mark II was not much better. My Mark II will probably shoot better that I can. I like the Winchester Wildcat ammo out of mine.

Hvy. Barrel I give the wildcat a go. I haven't used any Win. ammo in years. I used Win. SuperX ammo years ago, but started noticing a decline in accuracy( could have been my shooting ability ). Have you tried the PMC Zapper? I bought a box to use in my 77/22, I normally shoot the PMC match ammo, but the gunshop was sold out. Don't know if the match ammo will cycle through a semi auto??? Jim, I don't have any input on the MKIII. I have one of the first 22/45's on the MKII. I had a heck of a time with it. I really liked the gun and the way it handled and just couldn't part with it. To get it to perform as I wanted I did have to install some of Volquartson's parts, trigger, sear and extractor. I also put on of their comps on mine to gain an extra inch of sight radius, plus the intimidation looks factor. My 22/45 would not cycle any of the target ammo I tried, 10+ types. The extractor would jump over a lot of the different types of ammo as well. It still won't kick a target loads case out. I am looking real hard at clipping a coil or two off of the recoil spring. I had a few problems with mine that no one else I have heard of did, maybe I am just picky. There is a thread on Specialty Pistols on my experiance. Along with some links to various sites for helpful info. Do a google on MKII or 22/45, that place is loaded with a bunch excelent info on this subject. As to ammo, I tried some Federal champion and it looks real promising, but have extraction problems with it. The bullseye league I shot this winter I ended up using PMC Sidewinder with very good results, accuracy is there and bolt cycling went well too. Jeff

jsh, Thanks for the advice. I just ordered three different brands of target ammo from Grafs for my 77/22. I was going to try them in the MarkIII, I might reconsider. I'll stick with the higher velocity ammo for the Mark III. I'm having trouble finding PMC Scoremaster ammo. I get very good accuracy with it in the 77/22. I've heard rumors that PMC went belly up??? Have you heard anything about PMC? Natchez carries PMC, but was out of the Scoremaster. All they showed in stock was the low end stuff. I checked the Volquartsen site for parts and prices. I think I'm going leave it stock (though the trigger could use a little work). I can't see spending much on improvements for a plinker. I may change my mind if it's a shooter. Jim

Jim, if you look at V's site I think they have seconds or cosmetic blems listing. A couple of guys I shoot with said to keep an eye on it and a good deal can be had, as in cheap. The thing on PMC I don't know. The last couple of shows I have been to there was quite a bit of PMC ammo around. I sure hope their not gone, always thought their ammo was a deal for the price. There is another outfit that looks a lot like PMC, but is called PMP south african I think? Jeff

Jeff, I going to the gunshop today. I'll ask them about PMC they should know.I haven't used any PMP rimfire ammo, but have used some of their .223 ammo. Don't care for their brass as far as reloading. If you don't chamfer the primer pockets they're a bear to reprime. Back to the rimfire ammo. I think the PMC rimfire ammo is made by Aquilla (sp???) in Mexico. The only problem in these parts it's hard to find also. Jim

I am pretty sure that Midway has removed PMC from their ammo offerings.

Took the 22/45 to the range today. Tried some Eley Pistol Standard, they were prone to jam. The best ammo as for functioning in it was some old 80's vintage Remington High Velocity I had lying around. I had problems with the PMC Zapper ammo not wanting to chamber the first round, after that they worked fine. I didn't get to try the Win Wildcats the range started filling up, and I didn't want to be a Bench Hog. As for accuracy I'm not a very good pistol shooter so I need to work on that aspect before I can make a claim on it's accuracy. Also I disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled it in a matter of minutes. So much easier the second time around. I might want to do it once a week just to keep in practice. Jim
