I always thought the rifles intended for either the Winchester (Model 1903) or the Remington (Model 16 IIRC) were quaint wall hangers, with no ammo made for at least 50 years. 2 weeks ago, I was doing my stint as rangemaster when a guy came up with one of the old Take-Down Remingtons and loaded it with ordinary HV Long Rifle cartridges. I asked him if he had re-barreled it. He said no. He had taken an unfired .22 Magnum cartridge, pulled the bullet, dumped the load and cut off the rim. He measured the Remington Auto chamber, epoxied the cut-down Magnum case into the chamber, polished up the interior and voila! It worked amazingly well. Accuracy? He could repeatedly hit a dime at 25 yards. I was impressed. Has anyone else seen this done?

Aguila is now making ammo for the old 22 auto, and Zanders has it in stock.
