The only mags available are the crappy plastic factory models, which are known defective and everyone hates.

If you search around on the Internet, you will see a project from a few years ago to make metal magazines for the 541; but the project was shelved for whatever reason.

Sigh. Remington knows the magazines are garbage and does nothing. It defines their customer service in a nutshell.

There's a guy selling 3D printed mags on rimfire central. Kinda pricey.

I have a 581 I bought in the 70's... Back then, DuPont owned Remington and the original mags were made of DuPont Nylon not run of the mill injection molded plastic. they were quite durable. Mine is still fine after 40 years of service.. I have a few after market mags that didn't hold up, but the original still works fine.
I doubt that even the new Remington branded mags arew made of DuPont nylon and are likely junk. That being said, I'd like to have a metal mag as well.

Some years ago I got brand new ones from Numrich, not that they have any left. Like most other treasures, they are out there somewhere.

Modified 513 steel mags work wonders to replace the plastic units.

btw-
clips aka strippers load thru the top of the receiver.
magazines load thru the bottom or side of the receiver.

But only 2/3 of the new steel 513 magazines actually work in a 513. There must be a rule out there that says "nothing is simple".
