Money is no object here...and that being the case who makes the best rimfire barrel for the 10/22. I had a Volquartsen years back that was so damn accurate it was almost boring to shoot Wink. Had another Volquartsen in a different set up that was so/so. Building my daughters and wife a gun of there own and want the best I can put on their rifles...I would like for them to shoot like a house on fire to keep them interested and competive.

I was thinking...Hart, Kreiger, Shilen or am I just buying a brand name, or are they best quality. Maybe even overkill for a 10/22. Anyone one try one in such a set-up? Thanks.

If money is no object, and you are looking for a heavy stainless barrel, go with a Shilen.

If you are looking for a light weight barrel, go with a Whistle Pig.

.920 stainless bull barrels...
Why Shilen over the other two I asked about above, just asking?
I have machined several barrels from Shilen and they were good barrels. To many barrel makers Smiler good thing I guess.

I'd go with a Shilen, because the .22lr rifles I've shot with them have been really good.

Look at equipment lists from "big" rimfire benchrest matches like the PSL and you'll see Shilen fares pretty well out of your options there too: http://www.proshootingleague.c...nter-shootout/equip/

You're welcome, there's more equipment lists from the PSL matches on the website too. They aren't 100% accurate but will give you a good idea of what's being used.

If money were no object I'd buy a Shilen blank and have a reputable rimfire smith do the chambering and cut the crown. I haven't seen a true reverse-taper or ~.85" straight taper barrel on a 10/22 yet, but they are the norm at benchrest matches. Might reach more of the barrel's potential if you have an improved chamber and cut the crown based on the bore diameter and not an arbitrary length (i.e. 20").

I have a Shilen 22" heavy taper barrel on hand right now and haven't yet checked if it will engrave into the driving band on an Eley round but I'm curious.

PS I've heard Volquartsen is using Lothar Walther blanks.

Again thanks Evan K. I will more than likely go with a Shilen because that's the barrel maker I'm most use to and have had good results from them even on there chrome molly blanks. I have a Bentz chamber reamer I used on several 10/22 projects years back. Will go that route, again Thanks for the info!

Well, we wont be going to any international shooting events with the Rugers, but I'd (of course) want them to shoot like we could. Like I said...two will be for my daughters and one for the wife and myself. I'm hoping to get some family time in at the range and enjoy a day together (without husband and boyfriend)at first, just me and my girls. I've been talking a lot of smack and well they are damn good shooters to begin with and well I may just take an ass wippen.Wink Thanks Papi for the other option and report...throws another wrench in the works Smiler. Tasco 74: I've read good stuff about green mountain barrels but want to bring it up a notch and shoot the match std. vel. ammo from a tighter chamber for the semi-autos...Again Thanks guys!

I think I've been to every web sight that makes a 10/22 barrel. Fifteen or more years ago you could count them all on one hand...my gosh there are hundreds now!

You might also look at an " Upgraded Receiver " ??

https://www.tacticalsol.com/tshome/category/1022
Precision machined from solid billet 6061 T-6 aluminum using the same footprint as the Ruger® 10/22®receiver.

Integrated 15 MOA Picatinny rail allows the shooter to easily adjust a scope for accurate long range .22 LR shooting.

Stainless steel bolt features a dual recoil spring design and custom tool steel extractor.

Through the back cleaning port allows for proper cleaning of the bore without removing the barrel from the action.

I've had an Accuflite graphite 10/22 barrel for 12-13 years that has out-shot a lot of bolt guns at 22BR matches in Austin. Great barrel. My issue with all the steel and stainless steel match barrels is weight. They turn a fun lively rifle into a bench gun. My Accuflite barrel, as good as it shoots, couldn't be threaded for my suppressor so I just bought a Tactical Solutions aluminum bull barrel with steel liner. It's almost as light as the Accuflite and so far, shoots better than I can field-hold.

That's how my first 10/22 was with the Volquartsen barrel and at that time it was made by Douglas .920 SS barrel.

I've had a few but found the right smith to make a factory 10/22 work better than the all the high dollar aftermarket barrels and parts.
Try Cameron Dearborn. He is near Springfield MO now.
I have a stock looking boat paddle that he worked on that will out shoot my Volquartsen. The cost for a full blown trigger/action/barrel/bedding job from Cameron was less than I have spent on some custom barrels alone.

Just saw this thread. I'm with JTEX on this one. I have a Volquartsen "tensioned" barrel. I did send the gun to them for fitting, and they changed the stock and installed a decent scope mount as well. It shoots amazingly well at 50 yards.
