I recently bought a cricket .22 rifle for my sons birthday & mounted a Simmons Red Dot on it. Thought I'd take my 5yr old son & another 11yr old youngster out so they could shoot it for the first time after getting the scope mounted & sighted in. This past Sunday beautiful no wind day we loaded up the guns & Shooter Ridge gun rest & paper target for a few shots. My 5 yr old son impressed the hell out of me to say the least. I let each of them adjust the gun rest to where THEY thought they could hit the bulls eye @ 40 yrds on their own. Each boy took 4 shots my son bulled it all 4 shots the 3 fliers were from the other boy 11 yrs old still very impressive since he has never been around hunting or guns. Not sure if the link to the target will show up.

You are right to be proud! In addition, it is our responsibility to introduce the younger generations to the shooting sports. I, also recently purchased a Crickett, but for my 7 year old grandson. He hasn't gotten it yet, but soon! Good luck! Smiler

Dang, You beat me to it. I was just about to write a post bragging about taking my 8year old daughter out for the first time. I bought her a Stevens Cadet about six months ago and her mother made us wait until she turned eight to go shooting. Well, the day after her eighth birthday we headed to the range. My little girl who can't sit still for thirty seconds, listened intently as I demonstrated the rules and the operation of the rifle. After ten minutes of practice she was knocking down the plates like a champ (and giggling the whole time). She told me when we finished that it was the most fun she had ever had. She was proud of the trust we had placed in her and I was proud to pass on a sport that I deeply care about. My second child is due in July and Samantha is already prepared to hand down her Cadet for one of those "cool" 10/22's she saw at the range. Guys, don't forget your girls. They might just suprise you.
