The new Winchester SUPER-X .22 Long Rifle will propel a 30 grain THP (tin hollow point) at 1650 fps. This is a hot “hyper velocity” load which generates 181 foot pounds of energy, only slightly less powerful that the CCI Stinger at the muzzle.
They're also introducing lead free .22 WMR and .223 Rem. loads.
Tin is trading at $5.17/lb and at 7000 grains to the pound that's 233 30gr. bullets to the pound.
So that's $0.022 per bullet or $1.10 per box of 50 in material cost.
Federal made lead free bullets in 22LR out of zinc, which is about as cheap as lead currently. But I'm pretty sure zinc is toxic to birds so that may not be an option.
Are these out yet? Has anyone bought any and what's the price. Those damned condores keep migrating inland, got their eye on Nebraska now! could be griz and wolves getting poisoned too. Anybody smell a rat?
Kyler, I'd say that Winchester is as backed up as every other manufacturer seems to be right now trying to meet the demands of the hoarding hordes.

I wonder what the difference in wear on the barrels will be?
I doubt tin will be that hard on barrels, even less so since Winchesters tin 22lr is $7+ for a box of 50. I don't think they'll be the choice in plinking ammo.
One of the sintered iron gallery loads that was produced in .22 rimfire years ago might not be so good for barrels though. But if they were cheap enough we might not care, particularly in something like a 10-22 were changing the barrel takes about 5 minutes.
