I just picked up one of the new full size 22 lr rifles from Ruger. Finish is a little better than on the first ones that came out. I really like this rifle. My trigger was 3.5 lb or a little more so I did the trigger spring mod to it and it now measures a consistent 1.6 and safety functions as it should, now I just need to find some range time. I installed a Nikon Rimfire 3-9 x 40, it is very crisp and clear and I like the BDC in it but I don't know how close it will correspond to actual bullet impact. I'm thinking about a magnum version next.

OK, I know that I am resurecting an old post but I have to tell you that my son just bought two Ruger American 22RF rifles in 22LR. One was for his daughter for Christmas and the other he got for himself. We took his to the range but only had his iron sights and one brand of cartridges. It seems to be a good rifle right out of the box but I think he is going to have to use something other than the Remington Yellow Jackets. At 60 yards he was getting two groups (from the same point of aim) about 1-1/2 inches for ten shots. One group was left and high and the other was a bit higher and just right of center. I think a scope will be more consistent and maybe find ammunition that the rifle likes better.

He wants to adjust the trigger to a lighter pull which is easily accomplished and he wants the Monte-carlo rear stock extension. He is 6'2" and the longer length of pull will help.

All in all, for a fast run to the range in cold temps the gun looks promising.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

I think I'll get one for my son who is 10 years old. May be a while before he gets it so I won't have a report for some time but they are a good looking, feeling rifle. I like the design and the stock can grow with him. You guys need to look 'em up on Rugers site and read some accuracy reports. Sounds impressive.

God Bless, Louis

Mine is not exceptionally accurate but it does pretty good. My best group so far has been .625 with most around .850 to 1.25. My 10/22 is more accurate by far, but hey it's not a target rifle and I thoroughly enjoy shooting it.
