Hi Andie,,dunnow what kind of budget you have,,But I believe thompson center offers a youth carbine stock for the contender,,Kind of pricey but something you could grow into,,stock and caliber wise. Welcome to the forums!! Clay

Hi Andie,

Lot's of youth rimfires out there, not alot in left hand though. Savage Arms makes a left hand youth it's the Model Mark II GLY-Youth left-hand it retails for $184.00.

Good luck and happy shooting-Ron

Andie,
Welcome to AR, you just might be our youngest member. thumb clap
I would have your dad take you to a couple of gunstores and handle as many 22 rifles as you can. Get the one you and your dad think is best.
I am over 50 years old and just yesterday I bought a Browning 22 semi-auto, a rifle that I have wanted for many, many years.
You never outgrow a 22. I hope you find one that you like as much as I like my new Browning.
Be sure and let us know what you get and how it shoots. Big Grin

Say, the Browning would be just the auto for a smallish left hander, with the bottom ejection.
You need to be real careful with the tube magazines to make sure their empty.

I taught my kid so well he found a cartridge I'd left in one. shame

Andie,

Great to hear you're shooting with your Dad!!

I started both my sons (one of whom is a leftie too) with a Marlin 15Y. It is a single shot bolt action .22 and fits young men just fine.

Good luck and be SAFE!!

There are lots of youth model 22s available but most of them are right-handed bolt actions. There are a few ambidextrous choices.

Ask your dad to look at the Stevens Favorite http://www.savagearms.com/30g.htm A good gunsmith can shorten the stock to fit you now, and reattach the wood later when you grow into the gun.

As mentioned earlier Henry makes a youth model lever action http://www.henryrepeating.com/leveryouth.cfm

H&R sells a 22/410 Versa-Pack that comes with a spare 410 barrel, which can be handy for hunting rabbits and squirrels when the 22 isn't the best choice http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Combos/versaPack.aspx

Rossi makes some youth-sized break-action single-shots but they are pretty rough and not much fun to look at.

Finally, you have asked about a 22 rimfire but a better quality youth-sized air rifle (not a BB gun) can be a lot of fun too.
