I have narrowed it down to 3 rifles and am having a hard time making up my mind. I would like to hear your opinoin on the following rifles.

1. CZ 452 American
2. Weatherby XXII (anschutz 64 action)
3. Anschutz 1416 D classic (64 action)

I like the Anschutz. I recently got a LH 1415-1416 and can not believe how accurate it is.

Hard to argue against an Anscutz but for the money, a CZ is an extremely fine value and usually very accurate. I also like the set trigger feature.

Of the other two, I personally prefer the more classic styling of the Anschutz stock as opposed to the Weatherby but that's up to the buyer's eyes.

I have an Anschutz 1416D and love it. I have, however, heard good things about the CZ. Still, the Anschutz is a nice looking rifle. I have not seen the CZ.

Well all of your choices are decent to great guns.

I say decent as I have one CZ452 & have had 4 others. Sorry but not all are majical match guns for 1/2 the price of others. One was no better than a stock 10/22. 2 good accuracy; 3/4"-1" @ 50yds with good ammo. the one we have now does great at 50yds and decent @ 100m with great ammo and several upgrades.

IMHO the CZ452 american is way way muzzle light with a mediocre trigger. Have no experience with the set trigger but since I use none on other rifles doubtful it would be a choice for me. But can be had well below $500. Lots of tweaks to find out it's real accuracy potential but don't get bummed if 1" @ 50yds is all she gives. Nice look and good wood.

Anschutz has a superbe single stage trigger. This alone is a huge advantage over the CZ. Most all will do 3/4" @ 50yds with good ammo. many will do 1" @ 100m with good ammo. I lump the Weatherby & 1416 together as they are really the same gun with bit different stock.

Having said all that the CZ 452 with $300+ scope is cheaper than the anschutz/weatherby with no scope. For hunting/plinking/fun the CZ452 is a hard to beat combo. Take a look at the 'silhouette" model, has nickel plated metal and nicely shaped plastic stock. Good feel but way muzzle light.

As far as Anschutz why not just wait until you can step on up to the 1712 anyway. Then you are in the next magnitude of rifles.

So to sum up my idea is buy the CZ today with best scope you can afford (leupold 4x RF Special hard to beat). Then shoot it while saving for a Copper M57 or Anschutz 1712.

Those are all good choices.
I have a 452, and do like it, but would love to have an Anschutz, even with the Weatherby stock, if I just absolutely had to! Wink

Decisions, decisions!

I own a CZ 452 and absolutely love it. It may be the best bang for the buck on the market today.
Next step up would be a Kimber Hunter. Both my wife and son have one of these and they are very nice rifles for about $650. Kimber stopped production but they can still be found for sale at decent prices (500-650) Another step up would be a Cooper. I am partial to the Coopers myself as I am left handed and they will build me a rifle anyway I want it, they shoot great, and there Customer Service is fantastic.
As far as Anschultz goes they are well liked but I just never warmed up to there stock design and darker wood but everyone says they shoot great.
It all boils down to how much money you want to spend. With each increase comes a higher quality level but only you can say if the extra $ is worth the quality you are seeking. The Weatherby owners I talk to love there rifles as well.
If money is tight I would purchase the CZ and switch out the sear in the trigger. If this will be a lifetime purchase I would search gunbrokers for a used Cooper or order a new one built to your specs.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Safari,

Lad, couldn't you have stuck a "clunker" in there to help make our choice easier??? This is a tough pick - fortunately, no bad choice there!!

BTW, I do believe the CZ452 does NOT have a set trigger in 22 or 17cals. Mine don't.

I have shot Anschutz 22's in match play. They are nonpariel! I would love to have one. However... I can only pick up so many returnable bottles and cans to buy a good rifle. Ergo, my ownership of the CZ (and no regrets).

I agree that the triggers on CZ's are not the ultimate, but are most servicable. Obviously NOT for match shooting, but I can still get all the accuracy out of my rifles w/factory triggers (and I admit, I'm not the best shot). I understant CZ triggers can be improved for fairly little cost.

All your choices are excellent. And in the best of all possible worlds, I would have one of each (one down... two to go Wink)

Next time... PLEASE, suggest something dopey like an Elbonian-made Yugomatic w/belt feed so we can complain about your possible choice clap. Some of us NEED something to complain about dancing!!!

Good choices all!!

Mike

Hey don't make fun fo my "Elbonian-made Yugomatic" I love it. Shoots 1/16" groups with milk carton 22 ammo @ 300meters.

CZ's are hard to argue against. My youngest loves his. Check out RimfireCentral.com under CZ frum and they have lots of trigger fixes.

CZ453 has the set trigger- 452 has an adjustable one. CZ is possibly the best buy in a 22 bolt gun right now- I own three all shoot 1/2" or less @50 yds.

I ended up going with the Savage MKII BV instead. It's a great shooter and $130 less than the American.Yesterday I shot it for the first time.I got under an inch groups at 80yds using a 4x32 Weaver scope,Rem Golden bullets and less than wonderful bench setup.I suggest you give these a good look too.
