Savage Model 24.

Edit. Out of production but easily available. .22lr, .22mag, or .22 hornet all over 20 gauge shot gun barrels.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

If you shop carefully you might get a Contender Carbine out the door for under $500. The falling block Stevens Favorite has an MSRP in the $300s and a realworld price in $200s. A H&R/NEF Sportster goes for $138? Toward the bottom of the barrel is the Rossi which comes with a spare 20 ga tube for all of $135 (but they're rougher than a cob and ugly to boot).

Had an H&R in the hornet it wouldn't shoot anything under 55grains worth a damn but any thing 55grains and up shot quite well. I traded it off to a buddy he is quite happy with it loading 13grains of l'il gun with 55grain Hornady sp
