A Winchester enthusiast could tell you exactly when it was made, but as best I recall the earliest ones came along around the late 60's or early 70's. With a four-digit SN, yours would likely be the first year of production.

As far a market value, they're highly sought-after. The checkered model is probably going to bring at least $600 or up, more likely up, depending on condition. You can scan though the "sold" items on Gunbroker to get an idea of what they are actually trading for, that is, if there are enough of them traded in recent months to provide a true market. Disregard listing prices and reserve items. Something that is listed for a week or ten days and attracts no bids is either overpriced or has an undisclosed "reserve", which serious bidders tend not to bid on.
