1960's or 70's not sure? Bolt action kinda pretty gun. forend tip and pistol grip caps made of brown plastic with Walnut stock. Any one?

The 541S does sound like what you are referring to; they haven't been made for many years. They were a dressed up 581, if you can consider the use of plastics as being dressed. They added a bit of engraving to the receiver and trigger guard and then gave it a high polish. They then kept the plastic magazine! Those plastic magazines for which Remington is so famous.
The 541S was made between 1972 and 1983 (they made about 30,000) and I think they originally retailed for less than $150. Their value has since risen to about the $700 bracket for a sharp one.
My 541S serves me well as slayer of sage rats and prairie dogs and is mounted with an 8X Leupold. It has fired as many as 800 rounds per day when the critters become unruly and has never failed to function. It's excellant trigger has remained consistent for the last 20 years.

I think the 541 was made up into the 90's.

I have a 541T-HB that is a tack driver. Except for the plastic clips, the rest of the gun is A-#1
