Ladies and Gentlemen, We got one those really great looking, and handling 22 bolt action rifles made by Kimber. And as we have an assortment of ammo, we thought we will run them through this rifle at different distance. And instead of making a table of the results, we thought we will post the photos of our groups instead. As usual, the ugly face of inconsistencies in 22 rim fire ammo has appeared. We had some arguments as to the ability of the shooter - in this case me! - not being able to shoot perfectly good groups, as some shots seem to just shoot out without much explanation! This was soon sorted out, as whoever was complaining was given the rifle and the same ammo and was asked to prove to us how it is done. That put an end to the argument, and we all agreed that 22 rim fire ammo is NOT as consistent as one would have hoped for. Anyway, our intention is to see what ammo shoots best at these distance in this particular rifle. All the following groups are 5 5-shot groups at 25 yards Once all the groups are done, I will make a table as well.

Should there be some headings or something?

Nice groups. Amazing to me that anyone can shoot groups that small when shooting at "circles". My old Marlin M880SS likes the Eley Ammo too. The very best 25yd groups shot with it(1s-2s) were while using Eley.

I am using a Leupold 6.5-20X scope with fne crosshairs and center dot. The dot just about covers the center circle on these targets at 25 yards. And on the benc the rifle is really just dead in its place. One can see eac bullet as it flies - sometimes in a different direction than the one before it. We shot some Russian ammo this afternoon, walter said "the ammo thinks we are shooting groups at 100 yards, not 25 yards". They were that bad!

Hey Saeed, I appreciate your response because I've never used a scope with a "Dot" style Reticle, so I'm at a disadvantage. 1. Does the Dot completely cover a specific Circle on the Target? Also noticed the Horizontal Target numbers are slightly off-set. 2. Does the Horizontal crosshair in your scope allow you to place it under the numbers on the Right side and above the numbers on the Left to eliminate "cant"? ----- By the way, my Califoney buddy and I have both noticed that once the Bore is well coated with the "Wax" found on Eley or Lapua ammo, other brands of 22Rimfire will shoot better than normal for a group or two.

The center dot just about covers the small white circle in the center of the target. The off set number do help in making the scope horizontal.

Saeed, don't worry about it if others know what's what. When I first looked, I expected the results for 25,50,75,&100, up and done. I saw 12 targets only with 10 fired on. I did not see the heading now in RED, re all at 25 yards. Nor did I see all that I now see posted. Even so, I maybe can see a pattern where the cart.box is showing it's results with 3 above and one target each side. This theory goes out the window down abit with the Lapua packet. All double dutch to me I'm afraid. Now if only it was done on Excel.

Saeed, Are you going any farther with this testing? If so, I'd like to suggest you also try some Wolf brand match ammo. My new Savage 22rf is getting spectacular results at 50 yds. as is the German Lapua match grade. sure would be nice to see your extended distance results. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Saeed, I suggest you look at 100m first. I'm a bit biased at that range (Rams) as my sons & I compete in Small Bore Silhouette. We shoot at 40m (chickens), 60m(pigs), 77m (turkeys) and the 100m(Rams). We're going thru aprox 4-5 cases (20-25000 rounds) each year. both of my sons (12 & 16) generally out shoot dear old dad. IMHO this is the best shooting sport for rifle hunters to compete in. All shot taken while stand on your feet with no rest or sling. Plenty of ammo shoots great groups at 50m/yds then look terrible @ 100m. We have 2 Cooper 57M, 1 Kimber HS, & left handed CZ452. The Coopers & Kimbers give 1"+/- groups with good ammo at 100m (calm day, no caffine), CZ is a 1.5" shooter. Scopes are either Weaver T-24 w/1/2dot or leupold 36x w/1/8dot. Most of those in our groups use the better quality standard velocity with the SK Standard Plus, Wolf & Federal 711b being the best of the lower end. From there at bigger matches you see the Eley Tenex/EPS, R50, Lapua brought out. I very very very seldom see any CCI, Remington or winchester ammo used other than 40m basic practice. Eley Club Extra is the real sleeper. We've all yet to find a high velocity that is consitent out at 100m. Most like me shoot cheapest/best for practice (for me/boys this is Federal 714 Std Velocity), Good/decent for club matches (for us is Fed 711B), then the best for States/big matches (we use a my small declining 'stash' of Fed UM1B) out comes the good stuff. Not unlike how some serve from their wine cellar. I do suggest between types of ammo and/or cleaning that you fire 20+/- rounds before firing for groups. Seems many of the different ammos seem to lay an ever so slight fouling the then tends to even out after the 20+/- shots. Before this often the groups can be erratic. This seems to be more pronounced as the price of the ammo declines. My Kimber HS is also most sensitive to this. Good luck and thank you for the great forums. [URL= Pete A.

.22's like what they like, and don't care what it costs! The only way to know is to test. Often times the bore needs to be seasoned with a few rounds of each bullet you test before you shoot for groups. Most factory .22's like to shoot better with a bore that is not perfectly clean. When you find what it likes it SHOULD shoot groups of less than .4-.5" at 50M. And yes, 100M culls out the want to be from the good ammo. 50M is kind of the standard distance for punching paper, as .22's really don't like wind.

Have you tried one of the rim gauges that allow you to sort by thickenss (consistent headspace). DB Bill aka Bill George

Pete A Looks like a great set up there .I can't say I've shot the game in Texas but I have traveled to Winnsboro Louisianan and Benton Arkansas .Perhaps we have crossed paths . I shoot a Sako Finnfire, this year I'm using Eley Pratice when that is gone I'll go back to RWS target or Wolf my Sako seems to shoot them about the same. I usually test at 77m because we get so few calm days.It is tough to stay under an inch at 100, even when I was shooting an Anschutz 5418. Thank you Saeed good work.

I just bought some sk jadg rifle match. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet . the boxes' are marked lapua- germany?? 22 ammo is something that requires you to test and find out what your rifle wants to shoot and in testing you need to shoot 10-12 rounds of the different ammo before trying for a group. as the difference in lube will make a difference

NICE GROUPS! Your rifle is `eating' everything well...a VERYhealthy rifle indeed. "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of devine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."
