We've seen it boxes of ammo for years and the old guy at the hardware that's missing an eye will always remind you of this fact, but is it really true?

Does one need to be shooting a mountain with a good tail wind or could a man just tilt his rifle at the optimum angle and reasonably expect his bullet to travel a mile before it hits earth again?

Too much time on my hands today Smiler

I would say yes with the correct elevation.

When I am shooting my .22 at 200 yards I have to use 3 to 4 feet of hold over just depending on the ammo.

Yes ! And the optimal angle is low, about 35 degrees IIRC.The solids have a nasty habit of being easily deflected off trees etc and in live things .That's what makes them so dangerous.

Here's a table with some ranges, shows the .22 LR as having a max range of 1.14 mi and impact velocity of 300fps. Whether it is accurate or not, I can't say......

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

the NRA fact book shows a 22 LR will go 4870 ft at sea level and fall to earth with 5 ft/lbs of energy this is approximatly the same as a #2 lead shot from a 12ga. 3"mag. load at 50 yds, not neccessarily lethal but would cause injury. something else of interest- the bullet -40 gr, at 1120 fps from a std 1"in 16"twist barrel is doing approx. 50,400rpm at the muzzle

A well designed experiment is worth 10,000 opinions. Due to air resistance 45 degrees will not be the ideal angle.

You might be able to see where a 22 hits if fired over a large body of very calm water. Otherwise I think the experiment might be hard to set up.
