Due to something called diabetic retinopathy I will be reduced to shooting .22 rim fire for a while. Recoil could cause further bleeding in my eyes resulting in total blindness.

So putting aside my .357, 45 ACP, .223, 30-06, 303, 308, 270 short mag and 12 gauge what is left....22 rim fire.

What is a good .22 rifle and scope for mostly target shooting?

That sounds troublesome but life without a 22 RF seems pointless; it could be worse. I grew up with a Remington 510P in the house, now have three or four 5XXs. A couple have Japanese Tascos, one has a Howa, another (a 513T) has a Leupold (and goes to ARA benchrest).

Don't dismiss a high end air rifle. Quieter and cheaper to shoot than a 22 RF.

Take a look at an RWS 460, kills gophers like an atom bomb.

It is really hard to beat a Ruger 10/22.
You can put any scope you want on one.
They are easily customizable, but generally fairly accurate right out of the box.
A ton of fun for not a lot of money.

I have a CZ452 & Marlin 780. They are great sporter's & I'm very happy with both. My target rifle is an Anschutz 1411. I'll not try describe that one.

I think a CZ 452 and probably a heavy barrel model will do what I want unless the 455 is a better choice. Any comments on the 455? Thanks.

The 455 will most likely be easier to come by. They are good shooters. You can read a wealth of information at rimfire central. I would have no qualms purchasing a 455.

Not sure North of the border.....but CZ 452 Trainers are still around.

With the long barrel mine is very easy to shoot with a simple ghost ring replacing the rear notch sight. Sometimes I run a scope.

Trigger jobs are easy to do several different ways.

I wouldn't ignore the 455 either.

Sorry to hear that, but there is nothing wrong or demeaning about a 22lr. They are lots of fun, inexpensive to shoot and VERY accurate. Try shooting at "swinger" targets or metal silhouette targets. One can do a LOT of shooting with just a 22lr.
