So sick of the "Doomsday Preppers" and "Zombie" idiots buying up evything they can get! They'll all be dead before they can even tap into their reserves! Meanwhile in the real world, a$$h0l3s are buying all they can find evrytime they see it. It's keeping prices high on the 'net, and availability scarce. Makes it hard to shoot several hundred practice rounds per family member! The good thing I suppose is as this flare burns out there will be a flood of available ammo and prices should drop back down.

Nate Several years ago, Feb. after Obama's swearing in, I started buying 100 round boxes of 12 guage and the 500 round boxes of 22 rim fire. I thought I could use the rim fire as trade goods and the 12 guage would serve as hunting as well as trade goods. Now that prices are out of sight, and the ammo is unavailable I've stopped buying. I start buying again when the current foolishness ends. The just in time inventory control insanity some times works in the business world but seldom works at home. The ironic thing about hoarders is that they never consume their hoard. I'll enjoy all of the garage and yard sales in a few years when (1) many of the novices who went out and bought two bricks of .22's decide they really don't need them or (2) the sales by the widows of crazy old farts that are stacked high with shrink-wrapped boxes of ammunition recently extracted from underneath the floorboards of the old man's closet. Over-buying (which is the definition of buying ammunition you'll never shoot) is inevitably followed by an over supply.

I'm with Arkypete. I started buying on a regular basis reloading componants and 22RF ammo in November of 2008. I am well stocked at prices way below todays levels. When/if prices come back down, I will buy again. NRA Patron member

You could say I'm learning this lesson firsthand now. This ammo shortage will curtail my rimfire shooting habit this summer. Even the top-end .22 match ammunition is getting tough to find, as the hoarders are snapping up ANYTHING that is in-stock and will go boom. Very frustrating. Back in the early 1990s just before we had our first real go-'round of this, I put away a pretty good supply of .22LR. Twenty years later, this is allowing me to enjoy target shooting on a regular basis even though the shelves are currently bare. I replenish the supply as necessary during the fat times. Anybody know where I can find some H4198 and some 209 primers? Porosonik. Vetting voters= racist. Vetting gun buyers= not racist. Got it?

I have reloading supplies for nearly everything else (rifle wise) in abundance. I have always tried to keep plenty on hand. But there is no way to load rimfire. I never dreamed there'd be a run on rimfire as it isn't a defense or game getter. Glad I have a bow!

What is your definition of a hoarder? Is he the guy that has what you want and can't get?

for the last several years, ive been buying ammunition... when dove season would roll around, i'd shop the big box stores and buy as much as i could afford... like 8-10 cases.... and everytime I went to academy or walmart i'd buy a brick of .22's...when I got a chance here on AR to buy 15 boxes of 7x57, I took it.... so now ive got stuff to shoot... im not shooting as much now because I work 70 hr workweeks, and i'm not close to a range anymore...in January I sold several thousand .22s ... I could have sold lots more and pocketed the $$, but I didn't...I don't look on myself as a hoarder.. just a wise buyer... i can go to the range ( when i can) and enjoy shooting with friends.... go big or go home ........ As soon as the current insanity ceases I want to put together a collective buy of 22 rimfire with several of my shooting buddies. I'd like to buy 10,000 rounds of Federal match ammo. And a like amount of Winchester Super X to plink with. Then I'd do another group buy of Winchester primers, 50,000 or so. My wife and daughters know what the value of these items are so when I croak they can have a sale and one heck of a party. I just put my order in with Dan Killough of Killough Shooting Sports in Winters, Texas for 2 bricks of their Eley Target ammo in the yellow box. It is about $5.50 per box and he should have some this week. http://www.killoughshootingspo.../index.php/ammo.html Dan will leave either tomorrow or Thursday to run the Eley booth at the NRA Show. He does offer several other RF ammo deals. He shows out of stock as others do, but he has always been good to take your name and ship at his advertised price when he gets new stock.

I can't speak for current production because I haven't bought any for several years, but in my experience, Winchester Power Point .22s are usually quite accurate and offer a HP hunting load as well as good accuracy for considerably less than full blown target ammo. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I've bought a lot of ammo over the last 20 or so years when the supply was good and cheap and now I have plenty of it. (Never can have enough, though). Contrary to some's belief, in a fix, the 22lr could be useful as defensive and could certainly be useful for hunting-I've known plenty of folks over the years that in lean times killed their fair share of deer with a 22lr, and smaller creatures in abundance. Las Vegas Mobster Tony "The Ant Man" Spilotro's favorite "do them in" pistol was in 22lr.

Funny how when someone else wants to buy ammo, they are a 'hoarder', but you want to buy it, it is because you 'need' it. The very same thing happened in 08 when Zero was elected. True, it is worse now because you have Zero + Newtown, but the current shortages were easy to predict and easily avoided. People have such short memories. I can still get Eley Match for target shooting but there's a lot less available than usual. I wish they were still selling Team but I managed to get some boxes of the new Edge ammo on order. Sounds like some stores are getting bulk ammo back on shelves but I'm not counting on seeing much around here for awhile. You need to call and get on the short list. He will get a large shipment this week I believe. Things are so fluid, it is hard to constantly update his website on ammo. Dan has the only Eley test facility in the USA and only the third in the World. He may get a little preference on ammo, maybe.

Over the last few weeks, my local Walmart has been getting regular shipments of .22 LR, along with all the hard to get handgun ammo and .223. There is a line at 7am when they open, and usually sell out by 8am. Prices are the same as pre-shortage. If I'm up and about that early, I stop by about once a week, and have been able to pick up several bricks along with anything else I wanted. . When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro

This is getting stupid - no 22 lr ammo anywhere to buy in Central Florida unless one wants to get up at 7 am and wait for the truck at Gander Mountain. All the ARs and 30 round pmags to buy. No one is banning 22lr. The main commodity price copper has declined 20% since January thanks to China economic growth slowing down. I saw $60-$75 bricks for sale at the local gun show that wal-mart still sells for $15-$18 - crazy. This has to be the strangest outcome to Obama gun control - no 22lr to buy. All the AR, AK, 30 round mags and 50 cal in the world no 22lr.

A lot of us had the foresight to buy a little extra over the years. For those that haven't call Dan Killough www.killoughshooting sports.com. Dan is a rimfire specific supply house. Get on his list and when he gets some in he will ship it to you. I just received 2 bricks of Eley Sport at $32.50 a brick. I bought 40 military and new 30 round mags off this forum about 1 1/2 years ago. They were expensive at $5 each. Reputable people like Dan Killough will put you on their list and will follow up. Go to the different forums and put a WTB adv for whatever you need. I probably posted this before. My family and I needed around 3000 rounds of 223. I had and still have plenty of primers bought over the years. I had $37.50 in primers, $80 for 8lbs of powder and 2 more pounds if necessary. That was another $10 since I bought that at an estate sale. I bought 3000 rounds of Sierra 75SMKs and 77Grain Bergers. $400 invested. I found once fired brass for $375 for 3000 and the rest of the money was for shipping cost, cost for having it reloaded, and 60 plastic ammo boxes. I ended up with a little over $1500 total invested. It did take a total of 4-5 months to put it together. My advice is to buy a little extra when you buy and if you live to be as old as I, you will have plenty of shooting supplies.

I was at the Cabela's store in MO yesterday and they had a lot of CCI .22 LR Standard Velocity ammo on the shelves - I was surprised! Of course, you could only buy a 100 rd. carton at $8.44 ea. A lot of wives were showing up at the checkouts w/ just a carton of CCI ammo to purchase! If you live near a Cabela's store you may want to check them out for .22 ammo? Brittman
