Just received Brno model 1 just a shooter grade will refinish wood etc. Was wondering if anyone had replaced the rear triggerguard screw with a bolt tapping the receier to receive it, bedding the action, removing the barrel lug and screw and floating the barrel. Just wondering if some here had done this and there was much of an accuracy improvement. No matter where you go or what you do there you are! Yes tis true and tis pity but pity tis, tis true.

Before doing any of that I would just shoot it... it may surprise you... also, over on Rimfire Central there is a "sticky" in the CZ section IIRC on "improving" the 2-stage trigger. I had one with a Model 2 bolt that had a 12 oz trigger (8 oz 1st stage) that I gave to my son in law and have two others at 1.5# triggers. Get the J n P springs for the firing pin... quite an improvement over the 60 yr old spring. The only CZ I have that had the rear screw removed and the tang drilled and tapped for a bolt shoots lights out... it's the long barreled Ultra Lux... it's also floated... so it DOES work on the CZ's. You should shoot it before you change anything. I have two of them, stone standard except for a stock refinish. One put five into .183 at 50 yards, the other did .210 one fine day a few years back. I still have the targets.

I'll follow your advice, made a metal butt plate today as I couldn't find a replacement, hope to start refinish tomorrow. What ammo did you use? No matter where you go or what you do there you are! Yes tis true and tis pity but pity tis, tis true.

The rifle that shot the five shot group of .183 did it with Lapua Midas L. Both rifles liked the Lapua as well as Eley Benchrest Gold. This all happened 12 or 13 years ago, and I have shot the rifles very little since. I had to go out to my storage room to find the ammo I used. Kind of a long story, but I had a buddy that called me out, so to speak. He had a high dollar Anschultz with a big scope, and squirrel hunting with 22s was a big deal where I lived. I bought the Model 1s for ninety-eight bucks apiece at a gunshop that got a bunch of them in, and bought one for me and one for my wife. Word got out that my Model 1 was a hummer, and Dewey called me out, and the bet was a hamburger. That was a big deal around there at that time, and we were both very serious about the whole thing. I had a 4 power Simmons on my Brno, and knew that I had to get some glass, so I went to the gunshop and explained the problem. The gunsmith loaned me a 6x24 Leupold and installed and bore sighted it. There was a guy in town that was shooting BR50 at that time, and winning quite a bit. I went from the gunshop to his place and told him what was going on, and he went to his ammo stash and brought out two boxes each of the Lapua and the Eley and told me to meet him at a friend's place where there was a 50 yard range and benchrest set up. I started shooting and was producing 5 shot groups in the .225 to .265 range. My friend and benefactor said something on the order of "That gun will shoot, let me try it." I handed him the rifle, and 5 shots later there was a group that went .183. Marion wore me out with my rifle. He started to leave, and I asked him where he was going. He said he was going over to another friend's house, that Dewey was over there tuning up his Anschutz. I said "for crying out loud, don't let the cat out of the bag", but he apparently did, because Dewey never followed through and set a time and place for the match. I haven't shot the Model 1 in several years, but I killed a lot of snakes with it for a couple of years before I moved over here.

The guuy who won the NRA National Rimfire silhouette match back about 15 years ago used a box stock #1. He won the Opena nd the Stock divisions. Didn't even have a trigger job. They are very good shooters without doing anything to them. Ammo makes more of a difference than anything else Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing.
