I took a ss single six 4 5/8" that i have had for a while out to shoot friday and got quite a surprise. I had never shot the gun but when I did......not good.

At 25 feet it would not shoot within an 8" circle and not to any one point. Out of the 12 shots I fired 3 keyholed. I've never had a pistol do this before. I looked at the barrel and everything looked good. Crown and forcing cone looked good. The only thing I didn't like was the rifling looked very shallow.

I was shooting 40 gr.CCI 22 WMR 1800+ FPS. I didn't even shoot the 22LR cylinder. My thinking was if it was this bad with the Mag the LR would be worse. With my other SIngle Sixes the mag barrel was always the most accurate.

Has anyone run into anything like this or have an opinion on what it might be ? Thanks in advance for your replies.

22 mag and 22LR ammo can be very finiky from gun to gun.

Once upon a time I had a Ruger 22Mag/22LR Single Six revolver.

I gave it to my younger brother for a present, many, many years ago.

I wish I still had it. It was accurate with 22LR ammo and very accurate with 22 Mags. Scary accurate.

Before I had a panic, I would try some other 22 Mag ammo and shoot the 22LR cylinder, with a few different kinds as well.

Then if all is not right you have some good info to tell Ruger if you need send it back.

My Single six shoots well enough for me to consistently break clay pigeons at 75 yds with either cylinder.

I have a Ruger SS 6.5" barrel and have shot mostly the .22lr cylinder.

After sighting it in I've been very impressed with the accuracy of the gun. I dropped on leg on the trigger spring and lighten the trigger pull a lot.

I've only shot around 20 rounds of the Mags through it and found it had good grouping just a different point of impact.

If I recall correctly, I think there is a slight diameter difference between the 2 rounds and perhaps that is part of the problem.

I would have someone else shoot it with both rounds and if no improvement it should go back to Ruger. They seem to have a good track record for customer service.

Mine is very accurate as well with both LR and Mags. It was my first handgun, my father gave it to me on my 8th birthday.
