I think the only choices are Rem and Ruger...right? Please post comments on which is better. Either worth owning? I usually get bolt guns but I think a mag in auto could be fun and usefull. I know the 22LR auto would give me a lot more choices, but for this application I would like a little more punch along with the high rate of fire.

I have a 597 in 17 HMR and I love it....accurate and it functions as designed..no jams. I can't speak for the 22 mag, but I bet it works well too and it is $100 cheaper than the Ruger. I have a Savage and a marlin .22 mag and the 597 is at least as accurate...maybe better.

there are a couple others around. the older brno z622 are quite nice, the volqr' is beautiful but expensive.

I do not own one, but have held one and like the looks of it. Take a look at Thompson Center Arms. they have a semi auto 22

I will 2nd the BRNO 611. I bought mine about 8 years ago and it is one fun rifle to shoot. Superbly accurate and very well made. I think the older ones like mine has a completely machined receiver, newer ones I heard are cast or of lesser quality. I have a couple 14 round mags for and a little Weaver 2-7x scope. I have shot grouse in the head at 50 yards, turtles on the river bank at a 100, plenty of paper, etc. Never jams and really likes the 35 grain hollow points from CCI I believe.

I've used both the volquartsen and the BRNO quite a lot.

I liked the BRNO better, the V was quite a bit heavier and made for an uncomfortable walk around gun.

I have a new-in-box BRNO ZKM 611 with very nice wood. I bought it about 5 years ago. It is unfired. Anyone want it? I'd probably let it go for $450.00 + shipping.

RE. 22WMR autoloaders. I've shot a Remy 597 for 7 years now and topped with a NV scope it's my first choice for foxes at night... and with a reflex sight on board it's great fun on the "running boar" range too!

Other posters have mentioned the Ruger 10/22 Mag, Volquartsen Fusion and BRNO guns, but if you like radical-looking rifles, why not check out Excel Arms' Accelerator Rifle. Excel Arms

I'm in the UK so I haven't been able to get hold of one, but it certainly stands out from the crowd. Maybe someone on here has tried one?

Whatever you go for in the end, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it, and plenty of small game too.

I have a Volquartsen in 17 HMR and find the accuracy and build quality second to none. They are, however, on the heavy side. It's really good at turning ground squirrels in side out.
