I'm tossing around the idea of a heavy barrel .22LR bolt gun. I've got a Savage Mark II now and want something just a little (or a lot) nicer.

Right now I'm thinking maybe a CZ Varmint. Either a 452 or 453. As far as I can tell the only real differnce is the CZ453 has a single set trigger and the price is about $100 more.

Now a $100 extra is a lot of money but I'm a sucker for a nice trigger. What do you guy's think. Is it worth it?

Both Timney and Rifle Basix make adjustable replacement triggers for the CZ 452.

I have a CZ 527 with the single set trigger, and a CZ 452 in 22 RF with a regular trigger.
Personally, I like a regular trigger for shooting. So, I guess what I'm saying is that it's a personal thing. Nearly all of my shooting with the 527, even when shooting from the bench, is in the non-set mode.
But, if you buy a regular trigger 452, it will require some "fixing" to make it what you'll want, like a spring change for weight of pull, and a sear that Accurate Innovation's makes (Brownell's sells it).
So, from a cost point of view, the 453 and the 452 "fixed" will be about the same.
I do like the set trigger on the 527, both in the set and unset modes.
Other than the triggers, the 452 and 453 are the same rifles.
I shoot Wolf Match Target sorted by weight and rim thickness in my 452, and the last 5 shot group I shot with it at 50 yards measured 3/16". I never owned or shot a more accurate sporter.
There is an issue with the factory stamped trigger guard and floor plate. It sucks...LOL
The rest of the rifle is fine. I bought the Prestige model to get better Walnut. Mine is the American model, not the Varmint you are interested in.

Well, I just pulled the trigger and ordered the 452 Varmint. After the great advice they sound like they're about the same price anyway once you get the trigger tuned and it sounds like there has been a lot more research into fine tuning the 452 trigger so it would seem to be the way to go.

Thanks to all for the help!

Terry,
One thing to be advised about, and that is CZ's 22 Rifle bores are on the minimum side. After I bought my 452, I went to clean the bore before shooting it, and I stuck a 22 cal Dewey rod half way down the bore. I couldn't pull it back out, and ended up driving the rod out with a smaller rod from the muzzle end of the bbl. Never had that happen with any other 22 Rimfire rifle using Dewey rods.

I have a 453 and I can only advise you to test American Eagle ammo in the rifle. It shoots as good as RWS Rifle Target in my rifle (and that of a friend). 1 Hole groups at 50m.
