You are a sick SOB if you took anything I posted that taunted Saeed's work.
If you don't have anything to contribute go play with your toys.

Gentlemen,

I just want to make one thing clear.

What we are doing is what any normal shooter would do, to get more accuracy out of his rifle.

There is no way we can do what our friends who shoot bench rest do.

Those gentlemen would pick something, and nitpick it to nth degree.

Sometimes they do produce results that can benefit all of us, and someti8mes they hit a brick wall.

Butch,

Are you making tuners?

I make a tuner for centerfire rifles with a .900 muzzle diameter. The ID of the threaded part of the tuner that screws onto a barrel is .900X32TPI. Some people with smaller diameter barrels have machined a bushing to fit them to their barrels.

Could you let us know what cleaning regime, if any, did you follow in these trials ?

Saeed,
I think you will find that most, if not all, centerfire tuners are threaded to the barrel. With the recoil and muzzle blast it is very hard to keep a Hoehn or other slip fit tuner to keep from moving.

That would be the first poster!

Thanks for the compliment Cool
As for toys: Had'nt i been born a "Sick SOB" i had nothing to play with as an infant, that's how poor we was.

But i did not get any "tung in cheek" feeling when i read your post, maybe your irony needs a little polishing?

But then again, did i hit a nerve?

Hey Dane!

I think you should go back to where you were and just continue playing with yourself! I'm sure everyone agrees!

It would be nice if we can get back to teh subject at hand, and stop the name calling.

I have not had time to make the bushiong, but I am hoping to be able to do those this afternoon.

I am making one that will fit the Hoen 4000 Plus to a Sako S491 rifle in 223 Remington. And one that will fit a custom 308 built by Dwight Scott.

I have collected enough ammo - factory, match.

What I would like to know is if any of you has any suggestions of how many shots, and groups, should I try at each setting.

My thought was shooting 3, 3-shot groups, at each 1/4 turn of the tuner. Then pick the 3 best averages of the above, and shoot them again. And finally compare them with 10 3-shot groups without the tuner. This works out to close to 1,000 rounds in each rifle.

Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Saeed,

Did you watch the video I posted?

Do what it says. I would look at all the data you've posted already and take the best groups and note the setting. Then make minor adjustments on each side of that setting and shoot 2 shots. If the group improves like the video states, shoot a third. Keep barely adjusting the tuner (1/10 turns) in that direction till the group opens. Go back to the original setting and turn the tuner the other direction slightly (1/10 turn) and shoot 2 shots....etc.

You've already done tons of shooting and know generally where the tuner needs to be for which ammo. You just need to fine tune now.

I got a fudd tuner for my cooper .22. I probably didnt give it a proper trial but I could shoot tighter groups without it with Ely Tenex or Lapua midas so I left it off. I just couldnt find the sweet spot.

I wonder if a barrel tuner would work better with a slimmer barrel than with a heavy match barrel?

We have done the adaptors to fit the tuner to both a Sako 223 and a custom made 308 rifles.

But, I am afraid I have not had the time to do any shooting yet.

There ya go. Probably more than you wanted to know.
