Guys and gals, I finally found a new magazine for my Ruger Mark I pistol. The little button you push down in order to make filling up the magazine easier is on the opposite side (this one is on the left) of my other two magazines, which fit my gun's grip. I recall reading somewhere, when I began the search for a Mark I mag., that it is easy to switch the orientation of the button/pin. The package doesn't provide any such information. Am I imagining my recollection, or is it easy to switch it around? How? Further, if all is true above, why would some grips only accept differing handedness of magazines? Why would Ruger switch it up? From the bottom, my grip has a slight groove going up the grip along the right side. It doesn't like to be fed the left hand version and I don't want to force it like they used to do to us lefties in the old days. Just a thought, perhaps that's why I was able to find this mag. after keeping my eyes open for a couple of years, My pistol doesn't like the current 10 shot magazines. thanks, Lou M

I'm not an expert on the Rugers, but I do own an early MK I. Ruger may have changed what side the button is on the magazine because the button is what activated the slide hold open. The MK II and later Rugers have a slide hold open whereas the MK I's didn't. You should be able to pop that button out and put it back in on the opposite side and be good to go.

I bought a bunch of the new mags. for my old MkI and they work fine. Just push the follower down until the pin lines up and push it out and move to the other side. I think I was able to mod the follower of the new mags to hold 1 more round. The base plate on the new ones is plastic and can be removed, the original is metal and is fixed in place. C.G.B.
