I am looking at the Bruno CZ 452 and the Savage II Classic both in .22 caliber, for use in target shooting. The CZ is widely recommended, but how does it compare with the Savage? What scope would you recommend, whichever model I purchase?

I have a 452, but not a Savage, so I can not compare the two. I will say the the 452 22 Rimfire rifle I have is the most accurate factory built 22 sporter I ever shot. My last group shot with it measured 3/16" at 50 yards for five shots. I never shot any sporter that well, and I have many 22 sporters. Mine is the Prestige model 452, the one with the good wood on it. The only thing I did to the rifle was change the trigger pull spring. I cut a lighter weight one to make the trigger better. One of the CZ .22's will be mine soon.As far as a scope goes I'm leaning towards a Bushnell Trophy.Either the 4x or 3-9.

I also have a 452 and mine is very accurate, once I found the ammo which it liked best. I bought a couple of boxes of 5 or 6 different types and ended up, like DMB, with a rifle that will shoot groups at 50 yards you can cover with a dime. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

I played around with lots of 22 ammo to find what worked best for each rifle. 22 Rifles have their preference for ammo just like centerfire rifles have a preference for a certain load. I learned that the high end Eley and Lapua shoot very well in most rifles. But, the sleeper is Wolf Match Target ammo. Sorted by weight and rim thicknes, Wolf MT is very close to the expensive stuff. The group I shot with the CZ 452 was shot with Wolf MT sorted as above. GREAT stuff that Wolf MT. It's the same ammo as SK standard plus, IIRC, same price anyway. One thing about CZ's in 22 RF is the bores seem to be smaller than other 22 rifle barrels. When I got the 452, I wanted to clean the preservative out of the barrel before shooting the rifle. I used a regualar Dewey 22 caliber coated rod, and the rod got stuck half way down the bore. I had to drive the rod out from the muzzle end as I couldn't just pull it back out. Now I use a 20 caliber rod to clean the bore. Don

I agree on the cz 452 best buy is the trainer w/the long bbl(28") if they are still available. the problem w/ cleaning rod is probably the ejector I dont know if any one is making a guide yet,

The more I look into it the better the Savage MK II BV looks.Might go that way instead.Nothing against the CZ's but this ones a real shooter to for less green than the CZ versions I was considering.

I bought a Savage MKll and was disapointed with its accuracy. I called Savage and asked what I should expect in accuracy. I was told 1" @ 100yds, I sent the rifle back that day. In about 3 weeks my dealer called, Savage sent me a new Rifle, it had a target shot with Fed gold medal of .8" I now have a great shooter, and would recomend the Savage. Great service is nice too.

I went through the same choice and bought the CZ. I liked the looks and feel better and it had very nice wood. With rimfires, I just shoot stuff only out to about 35 yds. so I have not really wrung mine out for accuracy. For my purposes, the Winchester X-Perts in the white box of in think 500 rounds have done very well. I did not like the clip on the Savage. It is just like the one that came with my son's cheapie from Walmart. However, that cheap Savage is as accurate as any .22 I have shot and only cost $99. I broke it in for him during the squirrel season before his birthday. He shoots it very well. It's a good idea anyway, but if you go with the Savage, clean the bbl. before shooting. I don't know what comes in new Savage bbls but mine have all been very nasty. But they do shoot well. I have a 2-7-32 Nikon Prostaff on the CZ and think that is an ideal size for a small .22 like that. The 2-7 of any good brand is what I put on 22's. I just look for the best deal. But with the sale Cameraland has on the Pentax Pioneer at $89 I could put up with the bigger size. I bought one and they are basically a Burris Fullfield II at a very good price. Merg I
