Tried the gunsmithing forum and got no response. So:

Any one have any experience working on these? I want to remove a barrel to try a couple of experiments, but have had no luck. I stripped it down completely to the barrel/reciever, and it appears to be a simple slip fit with a retaining pin. I knocked out the pin, but the barrel wouldn't come out. I clamped the barrel in a vice, and tried a small twist on the action, but it wouldn't budge. I then tried heat with a propane torch, but still no luck.

I don't know if the barrel is actually pressed in or if it is just stuck due to the drilling of the crosspin hole. I thought about turning a bushing to drop over the barrel and drive off the action, but there doesn't appear to be enough of a diameter difference to do this. Before I do anything drastic, does anyone have experience removing one of these barrels?

I have not heard of anyone being able to remove these barrels. They are pressed in to the receiver. The cross pin is just extra insurance so nothing moves. I have a 93 in 17 hmr. By far my favorite rimfire. You might want to try posting your question on rimfire central. There are guys over ther doing things to varius rimfires I would of never thought possible.

Maybe it's rusted up; rust takes up about three times the volume of the unrusted steel. Would electrolytic rust removal be a possibility, if that were the case?
