ive had this ruger 10-22 for probably 15 years and it would get shot here and there but it was always open sights as when it was given to me by my uncle the scope mount holes were stripped. awhile back i did a trade with a guy who re-tapped the holes for me and i put a 1 piece tactical inc base on it. i still didn't shoot it. i wanted to trick it out a bit for awhile and i recently got the urge to do so. i ordered a hi desert dog barrel 16" blued fluted and thread. i got a boyds evolution stock and ordered a spring kit for the trigger. put it all together and im pretty happy. the trigger is still fairly stiff so that will need to be addressed still but it definatly shoots. after about 75-100 rounds it settled down and i was able to sight it in and then proceed to shoot single ragged holes at 50yds with federal bulk box. the ringers at 50 yards were boringly easy.
heres before. this is an early model gun before the warnings were put on the barrel.

after.

1022 customs are a flat out ball!! i've had one for several years now that like yours shoots groups in targets at 50 yds you can cover with the tip of your finger..... midway had a special on a laminated thumbhole stock and a bull .920 barrel set i couldn't pass up..... the only things that come on the original rifle that haven't been reworked is the action houseing and the trigger set houseing.... floated blued fluted bull barrel, thumbhole stock, volquartsen customs target hammer installed at their shop with a volquartsen trigger job. volquartsen exact edge extractor, bolt reworked by randy at CPC with the jeweled exposed side (looks sharp),harris bipod, and a nice clear tru-glo 6-24x44 scope... mine shoots the federal bulk ammo best too...... you're right though it's almost boring shooting .23 size groups in paper tatgets at 50 yards..... time to get into a little long range shooting with it.... 75 -100 yds..... enjoy the new toy i know i sure like mine!!

sksshooter,

here's the best drop-in trigger group I have found for 10/22s or clones:

It will make all the difference in the world. And they also have all the parts individually if you want to keep the housing on your pre-warning model.

I saw Timney's new (new to me, anyway) drop in trigger group the other day. I like the way they swept the mag release back like a falling block action lever. Has anyoner tried one yet?

jjbull thanks for the recomendations. i wanted to change the mag release and the bolt handle when i did the other stuff but couldn't find something i liked. rimfiretech has some stuff i like. i think ill be ordering the trigger kit to use in my factory housing along with a drop in trigger, trigger return spring, bolt handle, mag release. this gun is getting expensive after all of this ill be right at or just over $500 in a $200 gun. oh well i guess thats the fun in it. all i need now is that silencerco sparrow to screw on the end but thats gonna have to wait till after christmas.

the wife fell in love with my rifle and had pretty much claimed it as hers but wanted a purple stock on it. decided that was the perfect oppertunity to build another so thats what i did. went with high desert dog spiral fluted, threaded 16.5" barrel. kidd pic rail, kidd bolt handle/rod and springs, i stoned the trigger myself and ended up with a nice crisp 2.75lb break. polished the bolt and put the purple boyds stock. she will be getting the scope off of my rifle and i will be putting the mueller apv on mine as soon as it arrives. haven't shot it yet as ive been down with the flu but hopefully next week ill get to dial it in and see what it will do.

while i was ordering parts i went ahead and put the kidd handle, rod and springs in mine also and polished the bolt on it and stoned the trigger down to a nice 2.5lb break. once i get them both scoped ill take some pics side by side. what i really can't wait for tho is when my paper work comes back for my sparrow Big Grin
