Damaged Remington 121 chamber.

A friend gave me a Remington 121 to clean up and inspect before he brings it to the range. I took it apart and everything looked fine until I took out the bolt and got a look at the chamber.

There is a ding at the top edge of the chamber. It will still easily chamber a round, but it puts a deep scratch in the bullet and brass. It will most likely degrade accuracy. The rifle is in fair condition with some rust on the barrel, I figure it is worth about $300.

It is repairable perhaps with just a touch of a reamer? How much might a gunsmith charge for removing the ding? Thanks.

How hard would it be to remove the barrel? It looks like it's been dry fired aLOT and caused thts ding. If so I had on years ago that I ground a hard tapered pin ad tapped it in to move the soft steel of the barrel back to wehre it was to start with. BUT it's easy to get it stuck.

Apparently, this is a somewhat common problem. Check out Brownells.

Thanks A/C guy. This really hammers home the case against dry firing.

I got the tool about a week ago. It is very simple. It is in the shape of the 22lr chmber with one flat side. No sharp edge. I pressed it into the chamber and turned for a minute. The defect got smaller so I really pressed hard and worked it around some more. The ammo chambers easily now.

I will shoot it this weekend and see how it does.
