I've been very pleased with a Ruger 10/22 Takedown that I got a couple months ago. Got it equipped with optics that work for me, the gear arrangement I want in the issued bug-out bag, and it's overall function with a variety of cheap ammo is very good. Accuracy is well within expectations of a lightweight/take down .22 with cheap ammo; '1/2 minute of tin can' at 50 yards. (If you quest bugholes at 100 yards, then get your checkbook out and buy something else). There is one PIA that I don't like, and it's the factory bolt latch release. I was at the range in the snow/cold today and got tired of dicking with that arrangement closing the bolt after inserting the magazine. Anybody got recommendations for a replacement? I'm looking at the Volquartsen. Is there something else I should upgrade on this (plinker!) while I'm ordering stuff? I can live with the current mag release but will listen to advice from somebody who has more 10/22 experience. What about an upgraded bolt buffer I've seen mentioned?

While Volquartsen no doubt makes a quality product, I have always used these: http://www.rimfiretechnologies...elease_p/abr-001.htm Also available in Stainless Steel. Bolt buffers are a good idea too. That little piece of urethane, plastic or whatever it is, sure quietens all the 10/22's metal-on-metal clanking. I have never seen much difference in noise-dampening or durability between the different brands. I always change my magazine release to either a pull-type from R/T or an under-trigger lever model. But if you are ok with the stock model, leave it alone. Edit: While verifying the link, I noticed that R/T is selling the pull-type magazine release and bolt release together as a package deal. Basically, you pay for one and get the other FREE. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Give me the simple life; an AK-47, a good guard dog and a nymphomaniac who owns a liquor store.

Dremel your existing latch.takes about 30 seconds once removed. Little heart shaped hole grind out the bump that seperates the lobes of the heart shape. .
