Shot my first Ruger/NSSF Rimfire Challenge Sunday. Man what a hoot. I am an old Bullseye shooter and this was quite a refreshing change. I just showed up, squaded with a great group of guys and had fun shooting. The intensity and concentration required to be a successful BE shooter is not required for this type of shooting. I will continue to be a BE shooter first and foremost, but what a great way to just have some fun shooting the little rimfires. We had 4 stages with 5-7 plates per stage. You shoot 5 strings per stage. This is normally done with a rifle and a pistol, but with the time constraints of the short winter days, we let each shooter choose either rifle or pistol. As the days get longer, we will transition to a 2 gun event. There are four classes; Open Rifle, Limited Rifle, Open Pistol and Limited Pistol. The better rifle shooters seem to be faster than most of the pistol shooters, with a few exceptions. I ended up taking 3rd in the open pistol and that held up when combined with the limited pistol. When combined with the rifles, I was knocked down to 10th. By no coincidence, the top two IDPA shooters, in our club, (two young guys with good eyes) dominated the field. To give an idea of the times involved, the top open pistol total time was 45+ seconds, 2nd place was 60+ seconds, while my total time was 70+ seconds. Of course this will always change as the stages change. So, if anyone has a match nearby, or if you are within driving distance of Terrell, Texas, you should give it a try. Loads of fun!

We had our first 'official' rimf ire challenge match last year and it was a lot of fun for sure. I am worried that if I can't find some .22lr ammo before spring I won't be able to shoot it this year, and I am sure others are having the same problem. It is a very friendly match for kids and women. A few of the gals at our place can really kick ass!. C.G.B.

We just started doing a semi-sorta-event like this at our club. Man it's a bunch of fun. But this .22 shortage is really wearing on me! .

Does this involve running around and reloading, or just shooting? xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Yes and Yes Butch. No running around or reloading on the clock. Stand in one spot, shoot all the targets and the timer will record your time. Reload your gun, shoot again. Total five strings per stage. But again, no timed reloads. This was designed to be all age friendly. From the kiddos starting out to the mature citizens winding down.

And you start from a "low ready" position, no drawing either. .
