I haven't seen a retail store recently without plenty of .22 rimfire ammunition. But thanks anyway for starting yet another badly needed rumor. I've seen several shooters lately whose hair isn't on fire, which is truly disturbing.

I have been into dozens of gun shops in eastern Pa and all of the 22 rimfire ammo shelves are FULL. Not much moving in that respect.

Must be a WalMart thing. This morning I checked the ammo section up here in Tiger, GA. You can get all the 28ga AA ammo you want, but no .22s

So what's the deal? Every kid get a .22 for Christmas? Glad I have plenty of .22 ammo. My Grandson and son were up here from Florida. After I punked my son shooting clay pidgeons, the grandson proceeded to punk his dad and myself shooting 20ga hulls on our 70yd range. He is 9 and has laid claim to the Ruger 77/.22 with 4X Leupold . Nothing like young eyes. Sure gonna' miss them when they leave today.

Very picked over and little left at Iowa City Scheel's. Actually all the ammo was pretty picked over.

I did manage to get 4 boxes of Federal birdshot at the farm store though.

Scheel's guy said people ran in and bought up ammo after the Conn. deal.

We are about to start our nutria population control hunting. Tried to buy a couple of thousand 22 rimfire rounds.

None to be had. Friend at the gun store said he cannot find any from distributors in Louisiana.

Also checked Able Ammo on the net. No 22 LR except subsonic, bird shot, and some match. I already have Eley 10X I just hate wasting it on nutria.

Plenty of 22 Magnum and 17 but no 22 LR.

Not a bad rumor in my area, just fact.

If anybody can get them in their area I may need some very soon.

Just checked our local WallyWorld (PA.) today and the 22 LR shelves are empty along with not a single pound of powder. There were some bullets left but no primers.

The Big O will get Salesman of the Year Award again as in 2008.

Nothing in SoCal. Empty shelves. One GS has some match ammo left at $8.00 per 50, but selling only two boxes per customer. No guns either, maybe 1/4 of what they normally have. Contacted son in college, he found some in Arcata at normal prices, so had him get a few bricks. It's getting bad, glad I am OK for reloading as powder and primers are also gone..

I order them from CMP by the case (5,000 rounds) delivered to my door in Alaska for about $280. Last case took about 17 days to arrive.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I got a call last night around 9:00 from one of our employees,Walmart got a shipment of ammo in! By the time I drove 19 miles to get there they where sold out of .223 but still had .22s. The problem being they would only sell three boxes to a customer. After my wife and I bought our three boxes each, there where plenty of passing Walmart shoppers who where happy to buy ammo for you if you gave them the price of the ammo.
There are some pretty good people in SE OK. oddly enough no one had anything good to say about or present "leaders"! The stuff never made it to the shelves before it was gone.

What the deal is Gentlemen, is with the new Gun Control "Stuff" going on every body is buying up everything they can. Everything.

But I think you guys actually know this...

Things will slow down eventually, in the short term.

Production will catch up some.

However without being an alarmist, I would recommend that when it becomes avialable at a price you can afford/willing to pay, that you stock up.

Not just on 22LR ammo but on ALL ammo.
AND on what guns you want for the family as well...

Found something odd today, 22 RF with 26 grain tin bullets for condor country...

What I wanted to find was some Wolf Match Extra, nobody seems to have any.

The track of this thread is interesting - the original poster, dgr416 lamented a lack of 22LR where he was at on 12 December 2012, and a number of people said "What shortage? We've got ammo here." In the last few months availability has turned on its head thanks to panic, hoarding, gouging, etc. and all of the other things people have posited. Bricks of 22 are priced like gasoline in 1973-75. I'm not meaning to mock anyone, as the guys above have given great advice and helped all of us many times (especially my ignorant self), just pointing out how fast things can go crappy these days.

Related but different - a coworker of mine commented that part of the lack of 22LR availability is because "ammo manufacturers only run their 22LR departments for two months out of the year, so supply should come back in the spring when they start up again." It sounds like total BS to me (ALL ammo makers only make them during the same two months??), but maybe others here can enlighten us.

Please.
