Shooting .22LR ammo in a .22 mag??

Hi,
I sure have not tried this, but picked it up on another discussion board...

"Yep... grind or file the rim off a fired case, the end will fall off leaving a chamber sleeve. 22lr shot through sleeve lets you use sub sonics for summer rabbitting. DON'T shoot 22lr WITHOUT a sleeve, you get debris coming back past case and stinging your eyes/cheek.
Sometimes takes a little messing to remove the sleeve when reverting to 22wmr. but a jag and tight patch or a long 6mm drill bit are tried and tested."

Any comments?

Sounds doable..
But, why go to the trouble. Just shoot a 22 RF rifle.

I don't think that you can do it unless you use a gun (revolver) with interchangeable cylinders.
I don't think that the 22lr is quite as big (diameter) the 22mag and you will get case eruptions not to mention accuracy going to the dogs because of bullet jump.
my 2 cents

Ace Dube makes a cartridge adapter that allows the .22 LR to be chambered in a .22 Magnum rifle.

A handy thing to know, even if you never do it.

I have a set of 6 Ace Dube 22 LR to 22 Mag adapters. They work fine in the Rossi 515 and S&W revolvers that I have tried. Although the 22 LR bullets are a slightly smaller diameter, I believe that they expand enough to get a grip on the rifling. I have also tried them in a couple Savage 24 combination guns will good success.

I've read about this one before and I'd advise against it in all regards. The .22LR fires a heel-type bullet, whereas the bullet is a smaller diameter where it's seated, and outside of the case is the same diameter as the casing. The .22WMR fires a standard diameter bullet which is smaller than the casing. Call me dumb but I think it's a bad combination.

A simpler option is to shoot 22wrf cartridges. I am a die hard squirrel hunter and use the WRF for them since I feel a little overgunned with the WRM.
