I checked the bullet run out of 100 rounds of LAPUA MIDAS PLUS ammo, then shot them. Here are the results. First number is the run out in thousands of an inch. Second is how many of the 100 were. 1 - 1 2 - 8 3 - 28 4 - 33 5 - 17 6 - 9 7 - 3 9 - 1 I did not have enough of the 1 thou to shoot as a group, so shot the others. These are 5 shot groups at 50 yards, in a Walther KK 200 mounted on a machine rest rail gun. First number is the runout in thou, second is group size. Mix means each round in the 5 shots is of different runout. 1. 2 - 0.464 2. 3 - 0.265 3. 4 - 0.204 4. 5 - 0.099 5. 6 - 0.162 6. Mix - 1.131 7. 3 - 0.391 8. 4 - 0.218 9. 5 - 0.108 10. 6 - 0.196 11. Mix - 0.794 12. Mix - 0.253 Why the ones with a 5 thou runout shot best I have no idea. I have other projects going, developing loads for rifles we have built. Once I am done, I might come back and try this again with other ammo and see how it goes.

Take the advice of a very good shooter. He told me that anyone interested in playing with 22 rim fire has to get a large bottle of whiskey first. Trouble is I don’t drink, so I post my results here for you all to get drunk!

Saeed, how did you check the runout on 22RF ammo? I am disappointed in the runout numbers for RWS, but the accuracy of the lowest runout is pretty darn good! Did the test runout groups all come from the same box? I guess I am trying to see the variation in runout from the same 50 round box for each manufacturer. Peter. I took a box of each ammo, and measured them. The Lapua I did 2 boxes. The large 500 rounds boxes I measured 50. On the Net there are reports of 0.000 run out on some ammo. I have not found a single make that had any with zero run out.

Wow! Nice piece of equipment! Seems to beat rim thickness as a parameter! Although, in fairness, that was meant to turn regular ammo into match grade ammo! What if you used a die much like a bullet seating die to straighten the run-out? Would that help? Or might it make accuracy worse? In the US, there is something called a Waltz die (surname of maker). This straightens and resizes the bullets of cheap ammo. Whether it works or not seems to be a function of individual rifles.

Trying to figure out 22 rimfire accuracy or lack thereof, is a short cut to insanity. Dave

I remember importing several hundred rounds of 375 solid into Tanzania - PMP from SA. You didn't need a gauge - they were like bananas! They shot crap too.....
