Hi,
been using a Lapua HV hollow point round for years with excellent hole-in-hole performance and no first shot wandering but now Lapua has discontinued this round. Anyone that can recommend a brand/type that shoots equally excellent with a Ruger 10/22 Target rifle?

Regards
Goran

I would buy a single box of a couple of different brands and test them out for the best in your shooter.

I've had 5 10/22's and found that they like Federal and Winchester bulk just fine, but that's what my shooters were shooting well with. I would stay away from anything Remington in the .22lr area due to their recent quality control issues.

Winchester HV Xperts have proven to have the best in the field performance and accuracy with my last two 10/22's. Have fun in your search.

We found that the Lapua HV HP - the one with the crow on the box, to be the most consistant HV 22 ammo.

Thats exactly the one I am looking for! Can you still get it in the UAE? My local dealer says Lapua has dropped the 22LR production, anyone that can confirm?

Been trying a few types so far but none as good as the Lapua, best so far RWS HV HP.

Well, it seems it is not available.
But, I have about 4,000 in my stock.

Very often, I use them to cull some of our animals.

Just try a bunch is all you can do.My 10/22 shoots best with Rem Yellow Jackets but that was the only "hyper" velocity round it liked.Even the Viper which is just the solid version vs the hollow point YJ would not shoot well.It shoots most regular HV rounds well but not as well as the YJ's.

Try Velocitors. They are very accurate in my 77/22 and 10/22.

Thanks for the tip, there are some positive comments about them with a 10/22 on Midway USA so I think I'll try a box.

For relatively cheap ammo, the Win power points usually shoot pretty well. Not sure of availability or cost in your area tho.

+1 for the Power Points. They are by far the best performing low-priced HV rounds in at least four of my .22's, including two 10/22's.

The Winchester Xperts (bulk pack) are almost as accurate and consistent, for even less money.

Mine too. I was actually quite surprised at how well they shot. I stocked up.

My experience with .22s is that they are somewhat fickle. I have found that what shoots well in one, will not do as well in another. When I get a new one, I take 5 or 6 of the ones I have had good results with and test each.

CCI Velocitors and CCI Stingers are what I found performs the best in both rifles and handguns, including my 1911 Kimber Rimfire Target.

I have found that 22 rim fire rifles are often pretty picky concerning the brand of ammo that works well in them. What shoots well in one rifle may not shoot well in another rifle of the same brand. Thus, it is very important to try a variety of different ammo. Purchase a box of several different brands of HV 22 rim fire ammo and perform your own benchrest tests with your gun. This may be a bit expensive, but you'll know for sure what works well in your gun and it's really a lot of fun.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Just an " FYI ":

" RIFLEMAN'S GUIDE to RIMFIRE AMMUNITION; Steven Boelter ".
http://zediker.com/books/books.html

Eley High-Velocity Solid
" Pg # 99; Eley High Velocity was edged out in average group size by its European Rival.Lapua High-velocity, but not by much..The largest group on paper was 0.72, while the smallest was 0.3225. For a sporting round, this level of accuracy is impressive and unmatched by the American sporting ammunition tested. "

However, you won't know for sure how well it will group in " Your Rifle " ?
