.....not sure which one??? Been looking at the 93R17-BV which is blued bull barrel and "beavertail" brown laminate stock. Not sure what they mean by "beavertail" to be honest with you. If someone could help me out with that it would be greatly appr. The other is the 93R17-BVSS which is the grey laminate stainless bull. I like both of them from what I can see on the website but, as stated above, I am not sure about the "beavertail" thing. Also wanted some opinions on the Savage's compared to say a Marlin in the same bull barrel laminate stock set-up. I think that the Marlin and Savage are quite similar in all aspects, except that the current Savage 93s have Accutriggers and Marlins don't. I have a pre-AT Savage 93R17BVSS and after the trigger was polished, it has been the most accurate out-of-the-box rifle that I've ever owned. I recently bought a Savage MARK II BVSS in 17 HM2 that I hope will shoot 1/2 as well. The only reason that I chose the Savage over the Marlin is that the Marlins used to only offer a 7 shot magazine that extended far enough below the stock such that it didn't feel/balance "right" for me. I understand that Marlin now ships both a 4 shot and a 7 shot magazine with each rifle, so my complaint is no longer valid. Jeff

Beavertail means the bottom of the forend flares out to make a wide flat area that sits on sand bags well for bench shooting. Go and have a look at www.rimfirecentral.com too.

Thanks! I kinda thought that is what was meant by "beavertail." I will head to rimfire headquarters and check it out. Jeff, The longer mag was one of the reasons I was leaning towards Savage! ______________________ Smedley ______________________ From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.' i got a savage mkII .17hm2 last spring.. they were closing out the one's without the accutrigger so igot one for $99 at dick's sporting goods store.. it has a heavy barrel and the little .17 hm2 rounds are cute as sh!t some guy got em for as little as $88 bucks but i bought too early to get that price.. not too often a guy can get a new bolt rifle for a hundred bucks so still feel pretty good about it! now i'm trying to stock up on .17 hm2 ammo for it.. mine had the synthetic stock that had a line of flash all the way around it so i took a sharp knife and scraped it smooth.. it looks and feels much better even though it's not laminated wood i think i can get used to it.. i do like the way the thing cracks when you shoot it.. it's a whole different sound than a .22 h v round going off.. I have a savage 93 and my father has a marlin. My savage out shoots his marlin all day long and he has better glass. Also when his even starts to get dirty it doesnt like to extract very well. Mine has the accutrigger in it and its pretty good but he had to put a rifle basix trigger in his to make it even decent. Now my savage shoots the speer TNT hollow points loaded by Federal much better than the polymer tip loads. But it took a couple hundred rounds before mine really settled in and started shooting gangbusters. I'm not prejiduce against Marlin but he gets frustrated with his .17 his all the time.
