There's a 69A at a local shop. Metal in super shape, stock is scratched up on back end.

Don't know a dime about them, so looking for opinions, things to look out for etc.

The rails seem to indicate its about mid 50's production I believe.

Heres a few pics.

I'm not interested collecting at all of course but a solid shooter for small game and to teach/pass on to my kid.

Its consignment and owner is asking 265$. What's yer thoughts?

My opinion is that you should go out as fast as your feet can move you and buy it. Probably one of the best bolt action 22's winchester ever made. Also very accurate. As far as stock dings, steam them out and then finish with the stock finish of your choice. I had one for years and it never let me down. So what are you waiting for. Frank

I have one i picked up about 15 years ago. I got it for $17.

It's in pretty good shape, a lot of the bluing is worn, but it has a nice patina. It came with a Winchester receiver sight. Great for teaching a kid the fundamentals.

I would suggest you grab it if you haven't already. Very accurate rifle, excellent trigger... better than anything coming out on new rifles now..

The only downside is, it's not grooved for a scope.. so the rifle can't "grow" with the shooter.. but a great rifle for sure.

I think the later ones, maybe the last few years of production may have been grooved for a scope.

Hi,

Well, I did pick it up a day or so after I posted. Took it apart and the metal is in damn near perfect shape. Haven't had the chance to shoot it, just been too busy but it looks like a winner.

I'll probably do something with the stock but I'm in no hurry.

Turns out it does have a rail and I have moved a 4x leupold on it in talley bases. Only thing is the bolt handle is a tad wobbly but I have read that's not uncommon for the swept back models.

Hopefully I get a chance to shoot it in the near future.

Thanks for the message.

I talked a friend out of one many years ago. Worked over the stock, mounted a decent scope on it. Shoots better than most 22's out there today. My friend wants it back, but I don't think so.

I went from my BB gun to my Dad's 69A over 50 years ago. It accounted for many farm varmints over the years (sparrows to coyotes). I still have it... they are great little rifles.

I have always liked the little Winchesters. Picked up a Model 67 about a month ago. Triggers were kind of crude in the 67s but they still shoot great.

I got mine when I was 14, at the local hardware store. Has a 4X Weaver scope. Still have it after 54 years.

I think the 69A is one of the best 22's made.

Got a chance to shoot it yet? I had a 69A years ago, and the tube-fed version as well (mod. 72A). Very nice little guns. Too bad they got away....

Built back when workers took pride in their jobs.
I have 3 variations of the 69, they are all superbly accurate.

Finally got a chance to take my daughter out and have a shoot. Did an old-school bore sight to get the scope close and shot this group - left it. Seems to like Remington vs Federal ammo. My daughter loved the little thing and was having a hoot. This'll be hers one day, so I'm glad it turned out like it did.

It's always nice to have a couple of extra mags, especially if you have a few youngsters taking turns. One can load thier mag whaile the other shoots. If you are in need of extra mags Midway carries them.

Yup. I got some the same week i got the rifle
They are very nice magazines, practically indistinguishable from the original. Glad I've got this little rifle in the safe, it's a keeper for sure. And classy. (To me anyway)
