Found the stated gun in a pawn shop today. The bluing is gone but only surface corrosion. The stock is OK. No gouges, just surface scratches from handling etc. The sling swivels are missing as is the buttplate and the rear peep. Looks as though it has been drilled in the past for a weaver mount. Bore looks minty. Ticket price 175$. He immediately came down to 125$. My gut response is 80$. Any suggestions here? I like the old Mossbergs. I hear that they shoot well. From the description, what would you Mossberg fans think of this rifle?

Help Fella's! Has noone here ever shot a lowly Mossberg?

I learned to shoot with one. Didn't like it, too heavy for hunting, clubby stock. Accuracy is mediocre due to a sloppy chamber. Suit yourself, but I'd pass on it.

popenmann, Thanks for the info. I passed on this one. Too much work in the restore for the price.

I aquired a very nice 44US for under $40 in trading stock. All original, shoots as good as my M 75 Win. My father said it best in his infinite Appalacian wisdom back in the 50's. "A Mossberg is like a lady of the night, there ain't nuthin wrong with them, but nobody wants to be seen with one!"
