Anyone have first-hand knowledge of a Freedom Arms M97 22 LR? It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson

Yes. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere. NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR. I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

I answered your question and you don't like it? Tough. Ask a more specific question and I'll be glad to answer it as best as I can. If you want a fucking full scale review with targets, ammo used, etc, there are plenty of those on the net, some by people who are even paid to write them. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If memory serves me correctly, when the NRA tested and reported on it in their "Dope Bag" section many years ago they said it was the most accurate .22 they ever tested, including match handguns designed for olympic shooting. Article was published roughly 15 years ago, maybe more. I've always wanted one, to cheap to pay for it. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

If Gato followed the wisdom of your Tag Line - It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson - he'd never be able to post at all. His parents must be so proud of his language capabilities. ----- I seem to remember the same Article as Snowwolf and it did speak highly of the Revolver. I seem to remember something like "built like a Bank Vault", but that memory could be Full-of-Beans. One of the Gun Shops in Charlotte, NC had one and I didn't even bother to handle it because of the price. But that is me, and the price might not concern you at all. Best of luck to you.

Okay, guys. Everyone has had his dig. Let's move on as I rephrase my question. *** Would those who have first-hand knowledge of a Freedom Arms M97 22 LR having standard chambers rather than match chambers please describe the revolver in terms of its accuracy? If possible, compare the M97's accuracy with a Ruger Mk II/III Target 22 LR. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson

There is no doubt in my mind that the 97 FA .22 that I have that I've shot (it has a leupie on it, I've got a target model (used) that I haven't shot because my aging eyes won't allow me to shoot open sights very well anymore) is more accurate than most of the Ruger semi-auto .22s that I have, and, while I'm not sure how many I've got, it would be at least 5 or 6. Off a rest the FA will shoot near one hole groups at 25 yards with Win powerpoint ammo and will easily hit a beer bottle everytime at 100 yards. However, they are both more accurate than I can hold standing which is how I normally shoot them AND I don't spend a lot of time on the bench trying to find the best exact ammo for each gun. I shoot for fun and hunting and usually use cheaper decent bullets, like the Win PP for my target work, such as it is. I like a good fixed Ruger trigger better than the FA trigger. OTOH I haven't compared them side by side for accuracy on paper so this is an impression as opposed to a positive statement. One of my favorite pistols is a Volquartsen converted MkII which is probably better than the FA standing and extremely accurate as well. It has a red dot on it. For a revolver it would be nearly impossible to beat the FA. My only real complaint with FAs is that you're not supposed to dry fire them. That's my fucking review. PS: Hot core, or should I call you deerslayer, I may cuss but at least I'm not a lying POS. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. PS: IF I was going to buy a .22 just for fun, hunting, or target work I'd strongly consider looking at the Volquartsen Rugers. They are available in the $1000 range give or take, which makes them cheaper than the FA and IMO just as accurate. OTOH, while new or used the FA costs more, it will almost certainly hold it's value better and, given the level of craftsmanship in their manufacture their prices, new and used, will probably continue to rise. PPS: If it is still available (and possibly what prompted your questions) the one in the AR classifieds is a good deal, not a screaming bargain, but a fair deal. Figure any extra cylinder at $200. I've seen them cheaper but I've paid more for one of mine too. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Snowwolfe is exactly correct. The NRA stated the FA 22LR was the MOST ACCURATE 22LR they had ever tested, including Olympic Free Pistols. I have an FA in 475, and have shot others in 45 Colt and 454. They are one of thre finest handguns ever made. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Many thanks, guys. I, too, own M83 475s and 357 Magnum, and M97 45 Colts. The idea of a 22 LR M97 appeals to my emotion, but my Mk III Target pistol is very good at its job. Possibly, I could justify a purchase or trade were my 357 or SRH 480s to be disposed of. It's possible that I am just reaching for stuff to acquire. I have nearly all my bases covered, and I am uncomfortable realizing that I no longer "need" any firearm. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. "Need" is a term that does not apply to firearm purchases My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I have one, I bought it in 94 or 95, I got it loaded up every option(almost) the octagon barrel is great. I wanted a open sight gun so I never hung a scope on it. I bought both cylinders 22LR and 22Mag, I have put about 100 rounds of the LR through the gun and about 1550 rounds of the Mag, Its just a better gun with the Mag cylinder, alot louder but much more accurate(the LR even using ElyMatch ammo wasnt the best), no recoil and a pleasure to shoot. I could sell the gun as new(i'm not ever selling it) my point being it shown zero signs of use wit habout 1650 rounds through it. Knowing what I know now about the gun I wouldnt ever buy the LR cylinder-its so much better, infact its disappointing pistol with the 22LR, the combination of gun and caliber dont lend them selfs to each other IMO. the 22 Mag is a dream. I havent fired mine in almost 10 years, but i'm fixin to fix that real soon. I have a 454 casul with my name on it and jeweled and polished trigger and hammer, I have 200 rounds through it, 7.5" Barrel, My hand is sore the next day thats for sure. It looks as new as the day I bought it in 93 or 94. I have all the cylinders with it the 45 ACP, 45 long colt and 454 Casull. I never used the LC, the ACP was kinda disappointing, but i didnt fiddle around with it long enough-to pass judgment. Both guns are like swiss watches crossed with bank vaults, precision fit and finish and nice and smooth, polished. Neither FA of mine has signs of any wear, I'm sure if I put 10,000 through the 454 I would see some wear, with the 22 its so over built it might not ever wear out before we all do. I have been thinking of a 3rd FA, I just dont know what I want yet. perhaps a 375 with a short barrel, or the 17 cal that might be real fun too with a 10" barrel. sorry about the spelling, I missed that class.

Oh well, can't please everyone. I'm too cheap to buy FAs new, so I keep picking them up used. I think the Octagonal barrel is neat looking but haven't been able to snag one of them yet. Drat. I am really surprised that LVEric's .22 LR doesn't shoot well. I think FA would fix it, whatever the problem is. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members.
