Hello there, I am wondering which one of these you guys think I ought to get. Both are relatively cheap, and have sporter barrels, sights, and 10-shot detachable clips. The Marlin is a bit cheaper, however. How do they compare in terms of accuracy, reliability, etc?

I have a Marlin but a different model to what you want. Operation is flawless and its the most accurate out of box rifle I have ever owned (917 M2S in .17HM2).

Some Savage owners at www.rimfirecentral.com have reported that the Savage mags dont sit at the right height and they need to adjust the latch that holds them or they have feeding problems.

Accuracy between the 2 seems pretty even going by the comments I have seen and targets posted.

Some guys prefer the Savage accutrigger to the Marlin T900.

I fitted a Rifle Basix trigger to my Marlin and highly recommend it. Crisp and well under 2lb.

Okay, thanks. I hadn't known that about the Savage magazines. As far as Accutrigger vs. T900 goes, I haven't tried either of them, but I thought you would find those on a bolt rifle, not a semi-auto; or am I wrong? I do have to admit that the lower price of the Marlin (as well as Marlin's "last shot" bolt hold-open) are having me rather in favor of the Marlin. Also, I saw a new Savage 64, and the magazine follower was plastic; it may be all right, but I wonder how it would hold up.

Anyone else have any opions or insights one way or the other?

You are right Davis. My mistake. All comments referred to the bolt guns. I wasnt familiar with the model numbers you quoted.

Most guys seem pretty evenly divided on the accuracy bit though, I think either make is pretty similar and for the $$$ excellent.
