Just started shooting this 1/4" alluminum plate today at 200 yrds and the flat lead laying in front of the target and the small dents tell me that the litle guy is still gonna hurt real bad if you get pluged with it even at 200 yrds. I loved the sound it made (bell) and you could see it jump and swing before the sound of the bell ring was heard.

Hey Ted, Where do you normally have your Scope sighted-in for? And how many inches did you need to adjust to hit it?

When I'm sighted in at 25yds, I used to think I was about dead on at 100yds by coming up 6". Of course it depends on the ammo.

Nice Target.

Hot Core

On 10 power I am about 2/3 above the cross hairs and I have a rock on the side of the hile I use for a hold point. I am going to the highline tomorrow to shoot highpower I will try to measure hold over and let you know.

I am sighted zero @50 yds. and hold over for my Ruger 77/22 bolt gun is about 7" useing 1280 fps ammo. @100 I will measure this better tommorow as well.

But as for the 200 yrd shot hold over and wind drift is extreme for sure.

The target is 1/4" 7x7 aluminum scap from my shop hung by bailing wire on a pirated real-estate (FOR SALE) sighn I plucked from a friends yard.

Ted

Hey Ted, That sure is some fine shooting for just using Kentucky Elevation. I have a Mil-Dot on mine now and do plan to try it out way out there when I have the time.

Best of luck to you.

Today was realy fun...no wind in th hollow at the powerline where all the locals shoot. It's that time of the year, where many people who only shoot a handfull of shots per year are shooting their deer hunting rifles.

Today two men and a young boy showed up with a new handy-rifle with a factory mounted scope and two boxes of ammo in .243 they just purchased at Wal-Mart for the boy. They shot all 40 rounds at a piece of bucher paper they put on a big box at 50 yrds and toward the end of there shooting session the had finaly put two holes low in the paper.

The fun part was I was shooting high power at 200 and .22 rimfire at the same yardage but was shooting the alluminum plate with the .22.

I was driveing the older men totaly crazy!!! They would shoot and have no idea what was happening. Then I was just minding my buisness shooting the .22 and ringing the bell.

The boy asked the older men why the couldn't hit the big box when that man is hitting that litle bell way over there.

They left and I picked up 40 new once fired .243 win cases....."Thanks Boys, see you later" I said as they pulled away. FUN

Using Remington target ammo, my Encore Bullberry and my Ruger slabside will do better than I can make them perform.

ddunn, your statement made me stop and think.
My first thought was "How do you know".
Then I thought someone else can shoot them better than you.

At 60m. for instance with Lapua Magazine I can have a solid Br hold, round goes off crosshairs stay on the V Bull, see bullet leave group by maybe 2" . Up down sideways into wind, what ever it likes. Maybe one in 10 or 20.

Well, the gunshop did say they were all the leftovers. Frowner

That is a shame for sure. Couldn't help the boy's confidence either.

The first NEF Rifles I got to see in action many years ago were real shooters. Two guys had bought a 25-06 and a 270Win On Sale for $100 each at Hyatt's Gun Shop in Charlotte, put $25 scopes on them, and were shooting about 1.25"-1.5" with the Win White Box ammo.

I noticed their groups through my scope and walked down to see what they were shooting. When I walked up, they were seriously discussing going back and buying one in each caliber the Hyatt's had.

Sounds like they guys you saw were having a bit of a bad day. And you got the Once-Fired Bonus! thumb

But will it kill a zebra at that range? I don't think there would be enough retained energy from a low velocity .22 caliber at that range to penetrate much.

Sorry Hot Core, I had to. The Debbil maded me type it!

Cool

Cheers,
tom

I once managed to land 22lr bullets in the vicinity of a target on a plowed field 600m (actual) away, fired from a 4 inch barreled revolver. Must have used about a 30 degree elevation. Probably would have hit a mini-van. Roll Eyes

Come to think of it, I fired a nine shot group (it was a nine shot revolver) with that gun at 100m that I could cover with the palm of my hand. Now I realize that wasn't too bad a group. Sight radius was only five and a half inches! (No wind and no Kentucky elevation).

Regards
