I posted a link to an Alaskan hunt report in the African Hunting section as Saeed has instructed others to do in the past and it was deleted. Has the policy changed? ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." It wasn't deleted; it's in the Alaska Hunting forum. George

George, I made a post in the African Hunting section linking to the Alaskan post. The post I made in the African Hunting section was deleted. It doesn't bother me one way or the other, I am just trying to find out if the policy has changed so I don't do it again. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Hook, I'm not sure links like that are allowed. I posted a link in the African Hunting section to my New Zealand hunt report that was in the Australian and New Zealand Hunting section last year. That link was deleted quickly just as yours was. The hunt report remained in the proper section however.

I don't remember that 'policy' myself. Personally, I don't think it is proper etiquette to start a thread in one forum pointing to an unrelated topic in an unrelated forum. It pushes relevant topics off the front page. George

I deleted it. A moose hunt in Alaska has no place in the African hunting forum. And I normally don't like to see links posted to another link on another forum. I have never instructed anyone to post a link to a hunt report in another forum. What is the point?

Saeed, My apologies, I thought I remembered several years ago you telling someone that they could not post a non African hunting report in the African Hunting forum and when the person asked you how they should let their African hunting friends about their report you told them to make a post linking the report. I was obviously mistaken. ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." I honestly cannot remember saying that. We have set up relevant forums for different areas of the world so that it makes it easier to locate.

Hook, Obviously, hunt reports from non-African venues, are vastly less popular on AR and often do not get much in the way of traffic. Some exceptions exists of course with sections such as the Alaskan Forum being quite popular. Here is an option for you. Some guys have elected to post links to all of their hunt reports in their signature line. I'm not sure how Saeed feels about that work-around, but I see guys doing it frequently. Saeed, "the point" of linking as Hook described is that some members have a following and are known for entertaining and informative writing about their hunting exploits. Obviously, AR is much more focused on African hunting and unless one of these guys states somewhere on the African Hunting forum, that they are embarking on a hunt to a different area, their hunt report often goes completely unnoticed. Of course, the argument will be that if someone was interested in a moose hunt, he would peruse the Alaskan forum or "Hunt reports for the rest of the world". However, often it isn't the type of hunt or area that people are interested in, but the hunter's himself. A perfect example is that just recently, due to a lack of activity, I went looking around elsewhere on the AR site. By accident, I found a Dall sheep hunt report done by Frostbit. I knew Larry Shores was going this year, but not Jim. I don't remember him making it known since he is a resident of Alaska and it would be akin to me stating I'm heading out on a Texas Whitetailed deer hunt, so to speak. Jim's hunt report was excellent with some really great pictures. I almost missed it. Personally, I would liked to have been notified that he posted a report from his mountain hunt. However, I do see the issue George raised about numerous "link" posts of that nature interfering with the relevant topics within the individual forums. Just thinking but would it maybe be worthwhile to have a section where guys could index or announce their hunt reports? Of course, that's exactly what they do when listing them in the signature line so maybe that is redundant.

Years ago we had only one forum for hunt reports. After that forum became so popular, we decided to separate parts of the world, so those interested in hunting those are can find the reports easier. As a policy, I don't like members posting something in one forum and then linking it to another forum. Where do we draw the line? We have had people posting links to their post in the classified forum. Basically, we would like to keep each forum as much on that subject as possible. If people are really interested in hunts in other parts of the world, the other forums are right there in front of them.
