I've switched from relatively fast and light (150 grainers in a .270 Win) to slow and heavy (250 grainers from my .35 Whelen) because my experience has been that things die quicker with the slower, heavier, bigger diameter bullet. True enough, when ranges get over 200 yards, I'm up against the rainbow trajectory, but almost all of my killing is done at 100 yards and under.
