Some friends in Fairbanks are hosting our youngest for a week while she checks out UofA in Fairbanks. We would like to give them a Gift Certificate for a dinner out at a nice resturant there. Can you guys please give me some suggestions on what are the nicest resturants in town?

Thanks,

Dave

On my trip this past September, my buddy and stayed two nights next door to Pike's Landing http://www.pikeslanding.net/ at the Pike's Lodge. We ate there one night but we did the patio dining (all under the same roof) since we had not made a "reservation". I seem to remember that we had a halibut buger and some more Alaskan Amber - very good. The "reservation", or Fine Dining, side of the place seemed very nice. It has a water-front view of the Chena River - though I imagine that it is an "ice-front view" right now.

The hotel was very nice also - we left a tip for the cleaning staff since we dried out our tent in the room after our hunt. It is amazing how many little sticks a tent will pick up - and then leave on the floor after it has dried.

If you are going to carry a big stick, you've got to whack someone with it at least every once in while.

There's also The Pump House and Two Rivers Lodge. Or the Vallata or Gambardella's for Italian. Suppose to be some good BBQ at Big Daddy's downtown at Wickersham Hall.

Definitely NOT Pikes! Ya want Zach's or maybe The Turtle Club. Turtle Club used to be very good & consistant but now, it's kinda "iffy" too. Another to try is Gambardella's - tell 'em you want the shrimp Fra diavolo but it's gotta be on angel hair pasta. And make sure the pasta dosen't come to you "pasty. Pikes is over priced, The Pump House is "so-so".

The Turtle Club is not what it used to be, but I do agree with Bear that Pikes is overpriced - I just always considered most places overpriced in FAI...and ANC....and JNU.

I have to agree w/Bear.....Gambardella's has really good food and they're reasonably priced and you don't go away hungry......Pike's and The Pump House are spendy and the food is average......

Now, if you want all of the sushi & Chinese you can eat, it's gotta be the Golden Shanghai on Airport.....great black bear mount in the lobby, too. Big Grin

This is good stuff. I never thought I'd be all that interested in restaurants in Fairbanks, but my GF's son recently accepted a hockey scholarship at UofA in Fairbanks. Smiler

I'll be passin the info on to him and keeping it in my pocket for when we come up to watch him play. The missus is particulary fond of good eats and when her 'buds are happy, everybody's happy. Big Grin

Cheers and thanks!

If you want something that's gonna fill you up get a burrito at Taco Del Mar by the new Fred Meyer store. The Last Roundup on South Cushman has decent cheese steaks and the Asiana at Wilbur and Airport is good for teriyaki stuff too.
