Anyone have a link to a better map than the one on SCI as to where the line is (determining if a bear is considered a brown bear or a grizzly)? I know the SCI one is different and more generous (closer to the coast) than the Boone and Crocket one. I called SCI and though they tried, they weren't really much help. They kept asking what city was it near ...

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck

Chuck, you invested your time, effort and money to hunt it, so you get to call it what you want!

IIRC, any GMU that includes coastal real estate is considered brown bear by SCI. Were you in 19? Don't have a map in front of me right now.

Thanks! Definitely a brown bear by SCI rules then, the bear was taken on upper Togiak Lake which is the very upper portion of GMU 17a.

Chuck

I was told that if the bear was taken within 100 miles of the ocean, it was a brown bear and if it was taken 100.1 miles from the ocean it was a grizzly.

That being said, I have tried to get a map from SCI without any luck.
